N-Methyladenosine (m6A) is the predominant internal RNA modification in eukaryotic messenger RNAs (mRNAs) and plays a crucial role in mRNA stability. Here, using human cells, we reveal that m6A sites in the coding sequence (CDS) trigger CDS-m6A decay (CMD), a pathway that is distinct from previously reported m6A-dependent degradation mechanisms. Importantly, CDS m6A sites act considerably faster and more efficiently than those in the 3' untranslated region, which to date have been considered the main effectors.

Background: Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities experience higher prevalence of cardiovascular disease and related chronic conditions compared to White communities due to disparities in tobacco exposure. Smoking can be effectively treated but evidence-based treatments are less likely to be offered to or used by BIPOC patients. We present the study protocol of the Smoking Cessation Outreach for Racial Equity (SCORE) trial that tests the effect of adding longitudinal care coordination to current standard of care for smoking cessation to promote health equity among BIPOC patients.

This study assesses differences in opioid use disorder (OUD) treatment among sexually and gender diverse (SGD) vs non-SGD people. Using electronic health record data from a federally qualified health center, this retrospective cohort study explores OUD treatment for adults with an OUD diagnosis, as well as any clinic visit from January 2013 until June 2021 (N = 1,133), through review of medication prescriptions for OUD and OUD-related visits. Patients identifying as lesbian/gay had the lowest prevalence of OUD, with 1% (n = 231) of lesbian/gay patients having an OUD diagnosis, as compared to 1.

Intrinsic cortical activity forms traveling waves that modulate sensory-evoked responses and perceptual sensitivity. These intrinsic traveling waves (iTWs) may arise from the coordination of synaptic activity through long-range feature-dependent horizontal connectivity within cortical areas. In a spiking network model that incorporates feature-selective patchy connections, we observe iTW motifs that result from shifts in excitatory/inhibitory balance as action potentials traverse these patchy connections.
