Azithromycin can result in severe cholestatic liver disease. We describe two cases of intractable pruritus secondary to drug-induced cholestatic liver injury, unresponsive to symptomatic medical therapy, necessitating and responding well to therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE). The first is a case of a 60-year-old male known to have stable chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and benign prostatic hyperplasia, and the second is a 46-year-old female known to have primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC) who presented at six weeks and two weeks, respectively, post-mild-COVID-19 pneumonia.

Since the difference in the objectives of the two specific techniques, i.e.

Methods: An online survey was sent across to urologists managing patients with voiding dysfunction in countries of the GCC region through various social media platforms. All valid responses were tabulated and analyzed.
Photoacoustic spectroscopy employs acoustic resonators for signal amplification. Resonators are usually closed, however, in some applications, open resonators are preferred. The opening deteriorates the photoacoustic signal hence reducing the sensitivity of the photoacoustic measurement.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFT-cell resonators have been used lately for non-invasive blood glucose measurements for photoacoustic spectroscopy on skin samples. A resonator has a significant role in determining the strength of the measured signal and the overall sensitivity of the sensor. Here we present results of the measurement of the photoacoustic signal of such a T-cell resonator.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective review of 235 adult patients treated with ESWL, for radiopaque renal or ureteric stones between January 2015 and December 2016. Patient's age, sex, stone size, laterality, location, density, skin-to-stone distance (SSD), and presence of double J stent were studied as potential predictors.
Introduction: The European Association of Urology (EAU) and the American Urological Association (AUA) guidelines recommend percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) as the first-line treatment of renal stones greater than 20 mm, however multistage retrograde intrarenal stone surgery (RIRS) is reported to have high stone-free rates (SFR), fewer complications and a rapid learning curve. This study presents our experience of RIRS in the management of 2 cm-4 cm renal stones.
Materials And Methods: A retrospective study was performed of all patients who underwent RIRS for 2 cm-4 cm renal stones over a period of 22 months.
Distant metastasis to the ureters is uncommon. Moreover, isolated ureteric metastasis from gastric cancer is extremely rare and only sporadically reported. It indicates an advanced stage and carrier a very poor prognosis.

A 13-year national surveillance data analysis was done to describe the epidemiology and its trend of dengue disease in Oman reported between 2001 and 2013. Laboratory-confirmed dengue virus infections reported were studied retrospectively during the study period.

Oman is a country with intermediate HBV carrier prevalence; however, little is known about the incidence of HBV variants in circulation. We investigated the HBV genotype distribution, the occurrence of antiviral resistance, and HBV surface antigen (HBsAg) escape mutations in HBsAg-positive patients in Oman.

We retrospectively reviewed cases admitted in children <5 years of age who were admitted in one of 4 tertiary care facilities within the Muscat Governorate. These cases represented nearly 95% of all IPD admissions recorded throughout the country from 1 January 2006 to 31 December 2006.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFA critical component of laboratory surveillance for measles is the genetic characterization of circulating wild-type viruses. The World Health Organization (WHO) Measles and Rubella Laboratory Network (LabNet), provides for standardized testing in 183 countries and supports genetic characterization of currently circulating strains of measles viruses. The goal of this report is to describe the lessons learned from nearly 20 years of virologic surveillance for measles, to describe the global databases for measles sequences, and to provide regional updates about measles genotypes detected by recent surveillance activities.

Methods: We extracted data from the retrospective medical charts, radiological and laboratory findings of 131 patients who were confirmed as positive for Influenza A (H1N1) by real-time reverse-transcriptase-polymerase- chain-reaction from 21 July to 23 December 2009.
Results: The median age was 24 years with 34.
