Background: Applying nowcasting methods to partially accrued reportable disease data can help policymakers interpret recent epidemic trends despite data lags and quickly identify and remediate health inequities. During the 2022 mpox outbreak in New York City, we applied Nowcasting by Bayesian Smoothing (NobBS) to estimate recent cases, citywide and stratified by race or ethnicity (Black or African American, Hispanic or Latino, and White). Evolving technology and the development of new devices that can aerosolize water present a risk for new sources of Legionella bacteria growth and spread within industrial settings. We investigated a cluster of legionellosis among employees of a manufacturing facility in South Carolina, USA, and found 2 unique equipment sources of Legionella bacteria. The cluster of cases took place during August-November 2022; a total of 34 cases of legionellosis, including 15 hospitalizations and 2 deaths, were reported.

Background: Little is known about quality of life, sleep, and mental health in children with moyamoya arteriopathy (MMA). A better understanding of patient-reported outcomes may lead to improved treatment.

Hypercholesterolemia has long been implicated in endothelial cell (EC) dysfunction, but the mechanisms by which excess cholesterol causes vascular pathology are incompletely understood. Here we used a cholesterol-mimetic probe to map cholesterol-protein interactions in primary human ECs and discovered that cholesterol binds to and stabilizes the adhesion molecule VCAM-1. We show that accessible plasma membrane (PM) cholesterol in ECs is acutely responsive to inflammatory stimuli and that the nonvesicular cholesterol transporter Aster-A regulates VCAM-1 stability in activated ECs by controlling the size of this pool.

Computational simulation methods based on machine learned potentials (MLPs) promise to revolutionise shape prediction of flexible molecules in solution, but their widespread adoption has been limited by the way in which training data is generated. Here, we present an approach which allows the key conformational degrees of freedom to be properly represented in reference molecular datasets. MLPs trained on these datasets using a global descriptor scheme are generalisable in conformational space, providing quantum chemical accuracy for all conformers.

Participants provided self-reported data on frequency of participation in each of 11 sports/recreational activities in past 12 months and completed the Kessler Psychological Distress 6-item Scale (K6).

Graphene oxide (GO)-based membranes hold significant promise for applications ranging from energy storage to protective coatings, to saline water and produced water treatment, owing to their chemical stability and unique barrier properties achieving a high selectivity for water permeation. However, unmodified GO membranes are not stable when submerged in liquid water, creating challenges with their commercial utilization in aqueous filtration and pervaporation applications. Mapping the ligandability or potential druggability of all proteins in the human proteome is a central goal of mass spectrometry-based covalent chemoproteomics. This oocyte mitochondrial remodeling, which includes substantial changes in electron transport chain (ETC) subunit abundance, is regulated by maternal insulin signaling. Objectives: This study aimed to objectively define whether human hexapod fixation (Maxframe), with or without the use of 3D-printed positioning guides, can correct a canine antebrachial deformity with greater accuracy than the clinically established techniques of 3D patient-specific osteotomy and reduction guides (3D-PSORG) or hinged circular external skeletal fixation (CESF).

Methods: CT of a canine antebrachium was manipulated to induce distal radial deformity of the valgus, external torsion, and procurvatum, each of magnitude 20. Five experiments were performed to correct the deformity via a distal radial and ulna opening osteotomy using: (1) A 3D-PSORG with the application of a locking plate, (2) hinged CESF, (3) Maxframe standard protocol, (4) Maxframe applied with patient-specific positioning guides (PSPGs), and (5) Maxframe with frame adjustment calculated from post-application CT.
