A 12 yr old female spayed American Staffordshire terrier was referred for stranguria, pollakiuria, and concern for a mass in the trigone of the urinary bladder. A urinalysis and abdominal ultrasound were performed to further investigate the bladder mass. Nematode larvae were identified in the urine, termed microfilaruria, while a caudal abdominal mass was found on ultrasound impinging on the urethra.

A man aged in his sixties presented to the emergency department with vomiting, dizziness and generalised weakness preceded by perioral and peripheral paraesthesias for several hours. He did not speak English and was visiting from overseas. Examination revealed multidirectional nystagmus, subtle bilateral ptosis, marked bilateral upper limb dysmetria and heel-shin ataxia, with mild proximal limb weakness.

Background: Gut microbiome modulation is a promising strategy for enhancing the response to immune checkpoint blockade (ICB). Fecal microbiota transplant studies have shown positive signals of improved outcomes in both ICB-naïve and refractory melanoma patients; however, this strategy is challenging to scale. Diet is a key determinant of the gut microbiota, and we have previously shown that (a) habitual high dietary fiber intake is associated with an improved response to ICB and (b) fiber manipulation in mice impacts antitumor immunity.

Antimony(V) mobility in acid mine drainage (AMD) is often controlled by sorption and coprecipitation with schwertmannite - a poorly-ordered Fe(III) oxyhydroxysulfate mineral. However, due to its metastable nature, schwertmannite transforms over time to more thermodynamically stable Fe(III) phases, such as goethite. This study examines how transformation of Sb(V)-bearing schwertmannite to goethite impacts Sb(V) mobility, while also assessing the role that Sb(V) may play in stabilizing schwertmannite against such transformation.

We investigated the mechanisms that control Sb(V) sorption and coprecipitation with ferrihydrite across a range of Sb(V) loadings, and examined the associated effects on Sb(V) extractability during the commonly-applied 1 M HCl extraction scheme and the BCR and Wenzel sequential extraction schemes. EXAFS spectroscopy reveals that Sb(V) sorption and coprecipitation mainly involved Sb(V) incorporation into the ferrihydrite structure via edge sharing and double-corner sharing between SbO and FeO octahedra. Large amounts of these linkages partially stabilized ferrihydrite against extraction with 1 M HCl.

Progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) is an incurable neurodegenerative disease characterized by 4-repeat (0N/4R)-Tau protein accumulation in CNS neurons. We generated transgenic zebrafish expressing human 0N/4R-Tau to investigate PSP pathophysiology. Tau zebrafish replicated multiple features of PSP, including: decreased survival; hypokinesia; impaired optokinetic responses; neurodegeneration; neuroinflammation; synapse loss; and Tau hyperphosphorylation, misfolding, mislocalization, insolubility, truncation, and oligomerization.

This study aims to address and improve the low physical activity levels among people with mild dementia by implementing a novel shared decision-making and motivational support program, named "Changing the Focus". It will utilise a pre-post mixed methods approach, aiming to recruit 60 community living older people with mild dementia and their care-partners.
