A method for mechanised straining of rat and mouse foetuses for teratological examination.

The staining method uses alizarin red S and has been adapted for a 4-5 day cycle on a standard tissue processor. It gives consistently well stained bones and clear soft tissues in both rats and mice.

Final results of the Nashville Comprehensive Emergency Services project.

This demonstration program was originally described in CHILD WELFARE's March 1974 issue. This summary of its results in coordinating the wide variety of services provided for neglected and abused children in a metropolitan area indicates that objectives were met, at a substantial reduction in costs.

Components of "authority" as determinants of compliance.

This study investigated factors affecting compliance, to orders from a formal authority. The design created a two-level status hierarchy in which subjects occupied identical low-status positions and responded to demands from a simulated high-status leader. Four components of authority-normativity,coervice power, collective justification, and success-failure-were manipulated as independent variables.

Reversible dissociation of carbamyl phosphate synthetase into a regulated synthesis subunit and a subunit required for glutamine utilization.

Carbamyl phosphate synthetase (from Escherichia coli) consists of a 7.3S protomeric unit that contains one heavy polypeptide chain (molecular weight about 130,000) and one light chain (molecular weight about 42,000). The heavy and light chains were separated by gel filtration in the presence of 1 M potassium thiocyanate.

Radiation sterilization.

The sterilization by radiation of disposable medical items has been investigated. Various vegetative and spore-bearing bacteria have been irradiated and results indicate that 2.5 Mrad can be recommended to give a high degree of sterility.
