Adolescent relationship abuse (ARA) has significant sequelae and is more prevalent among sexual and gender-diverse youth (SGDY). Increased parental involvement and communication has been linked to decreased prevalence of ARA and associated health risks. Parents of SGDY may have unique needs and experiences regarding communicating with their children about ARA, yet little research has examined this area.

Detection of Elder Abuse Through Emergency Care Technicians Screening Tool Revision for Home-Based Primary Care (DETECT-RPC): a cluster randomised controlled trial study protocol.

Introduction: The annual prevalence of elder mistreatment (EM) in cognitively intact older adults is estimated to be 11%, yet the annual prevalence in older adults with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (AD/ADRD) is estimated to be as high as 75%. Associated with a decrease in quality of life and increase in risk of mortality, EM represents a significant public health burden. Home-based primary care (HBPC) providers are uniquely positioned to address the critical need for robust EM screening and reporting, especially among individuals with AD/ADRD.

Feasibility and Usage of a Virtual Assistant Device in Cognitively Impaired Homebound Older Adults.

Social technology in older adults can improve self-rated health; however, there can also be difficulties using it. Our study aimed to evaluate the feasibility and acceptance of virtual assistant device (VAD) use in cognitively impaired homebound older adults. 52 newly referred Meals on Wheels clients aged 60 and older were recruited for a three-phase study: 6 weeks of meals alone (control), followed by 6 weeks of meals+Alexa Echo Show 8 (AES8) basic usage, and lastly 6 weeks of meals+AES8 advanced usage.

NPA7: A Dual Receptor Activating Peptide That Inhibits Cardiac Oxidative Stress.

Background: Cardiomyocyte oxidative stress significantly contributes to the progression of hypertension-induced heart failure, highlighting the need for targeted therapies. We developed a novel peptide, NPA7, that coactivates the GC-A (guanylyl cyclase A)/cGMP and MasR (Mas receptor)/cAMP pathway. This study aimed to test NPA7's ability to inhibit oxidative stress by modulating the p62-KEAP1 (Kelch-like ECH-associated protein 1)-NRF2 (nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2) pathway in human cardiomyocytes (HCMs) and a rat model of hypertension.

In the Caenorhabditis elegans hermaphrodite gonad, the distal tip cell (DTC) elaborates into a complex plexus over a relatively short developmental time period, but the mechanisms underlying this change in cell morphology are not well defined. We correlated the time of DTC elaboration with the L4-to-adult molt, but ruled out a relevant heterochronic pathway as a cue for DTC elaboration.

Background: Transgender women continue to face a significant burden of health disparities with HIV infection as a critical public health concern. Substance use is higher among transgender women than among cisgender women. However, little is known about transgender women who inject drugs and risk for HIV in the United States.

In South Africa over the past 20 years, immunisation has saved countless lives as well as prevented illnesses and disabilities. Despite this, vaccine-preventable illnesses remain a danger. The demand for and uptake of immunisation services are shaped by a variety of factors that can either act as barriers or facilitators to immunisation uptake.

Olezarsen, a liver-directed ASO therapy for hypertriglyceridemia.

Introduction: Apolipoprotein (apo)C-III, a key regulator of plasma triglyceride (TG) levels, is a prime candidate for the treatment of hypertriglyceridemia (HTG), prevention of acute pancreatitis, and reduction of future atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) events.

Areas Covered: We discuss the role of apoC-III as a therapeutic target for HTG, describe the pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics, and metabolism of olezarsen, as well as report on the findings of recent clinical trials with this liver-directed antisense oligonucleotide (ASO).

Expert Opinion: Olezarsen, a GalNac-conjugated ASO targeting apoC-III, can reduce TG levels by ~ 50% in patients with extreme HTG due to familial chylomicronemia syndrome, as well as in patients with moderate HTG.

Background: Men who inject drugs who have sex with men (MWIDSM) may acquire HIV through injecting drugs or sex. Interventions to increase awareness of HIV preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) have focused on gay/bisexual MSM and may not be reaching heterosexual-identifying men or people who inject drugs (PWID). We explored changes in PrEP awareness and use among MWIDSM from 2018 to 2022 by sexual identity.

A case and intervention for older adult sexual mistreatment.

Background: The sexual mistreatment of older adults is a significant public health issue; like other forms of sexual violence, it is more prevalent than officially reported. Survivors often hesitate to speak out due to feelings of embarrassment, fear, or potential cognitive impairments. Moreover, the concealment of such mistreatment, coupled with societal stigmas surrounding aging and sexuality, creates challenges in recognizing sexual mistreatment during routine or emergency room visits.

By recognizing these variables and their impact on the timeline of an individual seeking care for a stroke, nurses have an opportunity to positively affect the outcomes of stroke within the community. eFluorination for the Rapid Synthesis of Carbamoyl Fluorides from Oxamic Acids.

In this letter, we disclose the anodic oxidation of oxamic acids in the presence of EtN·3HF as a practical, scalable, and robust method to rapidly access carbamoyl fluorides from readily available and stable precursors. The simplicity of this method also led us to develop the first flow electrochemical preparation of carbamoyl fluorides, demonstrating scale-up feasibility as a proof of concept.

Social connection and self-neglect: A case for broader exploration.

Objective: Self-neglect (SN) is the most common report to Adult Protective Services (APS) and is associated with significant morbidity and mortality risks for older adults. Lack of instrumental support is a well-evidenced etiologic factor in the development and continuation of SN, but little is known about other modifiable social connection characteristics. The social connection framework provides evidence-based characteristics across structure, function, and quality missing from SN studies that could be identified if explored.

Evaluating routine HIV testing and treatment and use of services for people who inject drugs (PWID) is critical to curb the ongoing HIV epidemic. We analyzed data from the 2018 National HIV Behavioral Surveillance of PWID aged 18 years or older, recruited using respondent-driven sampling and offered anonymous HIV testing after survey. We performed bivariate and multivariable analyses with log-linked Poisson regression of the generalized linear models to examine the associations between demographics and PWID service use, past-year HIV testing, and current antiretroviral therapy (ART) use.
