We present a patient with isolated angiomatosis retinae, in whom ruthenium irradiation was administered for treatment of a secondary serous retinal detachment. Prior to therapy, we measured an increased vessel diameter. Following treatment, decreasing venous vessel diameter was documented three-dimensionally utilizing laser scanning tomography.

Each patient had a repeat Pap smear and a colposcopically directed biopsy of a visually perceived cervix abnormality. Cervicovaginal lavage specimen and peripheral venous blood sample were obtained for HPV DNA hybridization studies and nutrient analyses, respectively.

This drug therapy does not directly affect the underlying pituitary pathology, and may have undesirable side effects. Pituitary-dependent Cushing's syndrome may be caused by pituitary microadenomas or macroadenomas.

One of the well-recognized targets of free radical-induced injury is peroxidation of lipids. Using a variety of approaches, we have found that a series of prostaglandin F2-like compounds are produced in vivo in humans by a non-cyclooxygenase mechanism involving free radical-catalyzed peroxidation of arachidonic acid.

Isolated G7 HBV transgenic donor hepatocytes secreting HBsAg were transplanted into congeneic or allogeneic mouse recipients. Serum HBsAg was present three days after hepatocyte transplantation in congeneic animals and persisted indefinitely when hepatocytes were transplanted into the spleen.

Weanling male Sprague-Dawley rats were fed selenium-deficient or selenium-adequate diets for 20 weeks. As selenium deficiency developed, urinary taurine excretion increased in selenium-deficient rats compared to controls.

A 55-kD organic anion binding protein (OABP) was identified previously in liver cell plasma membrane sinusoidal subfractions. Although this protein was localized to the surface of hepatocytes by immunofluorescence, immunoblot analysis revealed reactivity toward both plasma membrane and mitochondrial fractions. To clarify these findings, an immunoreactive clone from a rat liver cDNA expression library was isolated, the 1,500-base pair cDNA insert was sequenced, and the corresponding beta-galactosidase fusion protein was expressed and purified.

We routinely use this material for the detection by molecular hybridization of human papillomavirus infection of the cervix. We have analyzed deoxyribonucleic acid isolated from cervicovaginal cells by Southern blot hybridization to detect a common restriction fragment length polymorphism on chromosome 13.

Rat abdominal or human breast skin was excised, pinned flat, and incubated at 37 degrees C for 6 hours in a buffered salt solution containing catecholamine. At 0.

Laser scanning tomography (LST) permits three-dimensional analysis of distinct intraocular structures under in vivo conditions with high accuracy. We present a case of papillitis, in which the elevation could be determined as 550 microns, leading to a volume of 1.

We investigated the relationship of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection of the female genital tract, cervical cytology, and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection in 67 women. Forty-eight women had a history of intravenous drug use, 18 were heterosexual partners of HIV-infected intravenous drug users, and one was a transfusion recipient. Patients received a Pap smear, cervicovaginal lavage for HPV determination by Southern blot, HIV serum antibody by enzyme immunoassay with Western blot confirmation, and thorough screening for other sexually transmitted diseases.

Ocular changes occurred in close time relation with the treatment of oxypertin: Corneal sicca-syndrome was found at first in both eyes, later on severe corneal scaring, vascularisation, and thinning indicated the need of further ophthalmologic treatment. Although the psychiatric treatment was stopped the ocular effects remained and keratoplasty had to be performed in the right eye.

This virus has been implicated as an etiologic agent in the development of cervical neoplasia. To detect human papillomavirus infection with maximum sensitivity, cells must be collected and assayed for human papillomavirus deoxyribonucleic acid.

Cervical neoplasia is associated with onset of sexual activity at an early age. Therefore, this study sought to define the prevalence rates of HPV infection and cytologic abnormalities in adolescents.

Infusion of organic nitrates into perfused rat liver led to efflux of GSSG in the bile and nitrite in the perfusate. Biliary GSSG increased more rapidly than did nitrite release as GTN infusion rate was increased, indicating that GSSG reducing capacity was being exceeded.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFTwo lines of HBV transgenic mice (derived from G7 and G26) have been produced, each of which contains a unique locus of HBV DNA and expresses 2.1-kb HBsAg transcripts preferentially in liver and kidney tissues. To investigate the regulation of HBV expression in these mice, we have examined the state of methylation and the chromatin structure in and around the HBV sequences in tissues with and without HBV gene expression.

Healthy boys and men (19-22 per group) from a low selenium area (Dechang County) and from an area where sodium selenite was added to salt (Mianning County) were studied. Keshan disease was endemic in Dechang but occurred rarely in Mianning.
