BACKGROUND Elderly patients with severe or multiple comorbidities can be at high risk for complications of general anesthesia. This report is of a 74-year-old man with severe comorbidities, including ischemic heart disease (IHD) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and successful abdominal aortic aneurysm repair with thoracic segmental spinal anesthesia. CASE REPORT The patient, aged 74, had previously been diagnosed with severe COPD and IHD.
