The Cost-Effectiveness of Sentinel Lymph Node Mapping in High-Risk Endometrial Cancer.

The aim was to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of sentinel lymph node (SLN) mapping in comparison to routine pelvic lymphadenectomy for lymph node assessment in patients with high-risk endometrial cancer (EC). A decision-analytic model was developed to compare SLN mapping with pelvic lymphadenectomy for guiding adjuvant therapy in patients with high-risk endometrioid and non-endometrioid EC, focusing on costs and health outcomes. The input data were obtained from systematic literature searches and expert consensus.

Directionality of HLA-DP permissive mismatches improves risk prediction in HCT for acute leukemia and MDS.

HLA-DP permissive mismatches can be assigned a direction according to their immunopeptidome divergence across core and noncore subsets. Noncore permissive graft-versus-host mismatches show significantly reduced risks of relapse without increased nonrelapse mortality compared with allele-matched pairs.

Transorbital ultrasound in the diagnosis of giant cell arteritis.

Objectives: The objective of this study was to prospectively evaluate the diagnostic efficacy of transorbital ultrasound (TOS) in patients newly diagnosed with giant cell arteritis (GCA), presenting with visual symptoms.

Methods: Patients with newly diagnosed, untreated GCA were examined using TOS, assessing central retinal artery flow velocity [peak systolic velocity (PSV), end-diastolic velocity (EDV), resistance index (RI)], and optic nerve diameter (OND). Vascular ultrasound was conducted to evaluate the superficial temporal arteries, their branches, facial, axillary, carotid, and vertebral arteries.

Follow-up ultrasound examination in patients with newly diagnosed giant cell arteritis.

Objectives: Ultrasound is a standard tool to diagnose giant cell arteritis (GCA). Until now, only few studies investigated the role of ultrasound in the follow-up of GCA. The aim of this study was to assess the changes in the intima media thickness (IMT), total number of affected arteries and provisional OMERACT GCA ultrasonography score (OGUS) in a 12-months follow-up period.

SURF1 deficiency (OMIM # 220110) causes Leigh syndrome (LS, OMIM # 256000), a mitochondrial disorder typified by stress-induced metabolic strokes, neurodevelopmental regression and progressive multisystem dysfunction. Here, we describe two novel surf1-/- zebrafish knockout models generated by CRISPR/Cas9 technology. While gross larval morphology, fertility, and survival into adulthood appeared unaffected, surf1-/- mutants manifested adult-onset ocular anomalies and decreased swimming activity, as well as classical biochemical hallmarks of human SURF1 disease, including reduced complex IV expression and enzymatic activity and increased tissue lactate.

Prevalence and characteristics of giant cell arteritis in patients with newly diagnosed polymyalgia rheumatica - a prospective cohort study.

Background: It is known that giant cell arteritis (GCA) and polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) often occur together. So far, the prevalence of GCA in newly diagnosed PMR patients has not been evaluated in a prospective ultrasound study.

Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of GCA using vascular ultrasound in patients with newly diagnosed PMR.

The aim was to investigate the incidence of sentinel lymph node (SLN) metastases and the contribution of SLN mapping in presumed low- and intermediate-risk endometrial cancer (EC). A multicenter, prospective cohort study in presumed low- and intermediate-risk EC patients was performed. Patients underwent SLN mapping using cervical injections of indocyanine green and a minimally invasive hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy.

The added value of SLN mapping with indocyanine green in low- and intermediate-risk endometrial cancer management: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the SLN detection rate in presumed early stage, low- and intermediate-risk endometrial cancers, the incidence of SLN metastases, and the negative predictive value of SLN mapping performed with indocyanine green (ICG).

To adapt the Quality of Communication Questionnaire (QoC) for family members and to analyze its validity evidence for use in Brazil. Data were collected between 2017 and 2019, with family members of patients in intensive care (IC) and palliative care (PC) from five public hospitals in the South Brazil.

Statin use is associated with a reduced incidence of colorectal cancer expressing SMAD4.

Background: Long-term use of statins is associated with a small reduced risk of colorectal cancer but their mechanism of action is not well understood. While they are generally believed to act on KRAS, we have previously proposed that they act via influencing the BMP pathway. The objective of this study was to look for associations between statin use and the risk of developing colorectal cancer of a particular molecular subtype.

Quality of Communication Questionnaire for Patients Hospitalized in Intensive and Palliative Care: Validity Evidence for Use in Brazil.

The Quality of Communication Questionnaire (QoC) was culturally adapted for Brazil due to its importance and use in several studies and different scenarios. The objective of this study was to evaluate the validity evidence of the Brazilian version of the QoC. A validation study was carried out involving 253 patients admitted to five public hospitals in Southern Brazil.

Background: Giant cell arteritis (GCA) is the most common form of systemic vasculitis in persons aged 50 years and older. Medium and large vessels, like the temporal and axillary arteries, are commonly affected. Typical symptoms are headache, scalp tenderness, jaw claudication and ophthalmological symptoms as loss of visual field, diplopia or amaurosis due to optic nerve ischemia.

Methods: Data from the prospective Study on Transitions in Employment, Ability and Motivation were used. Presenteeism measurement comprised a global rating of work-ability, and two instruments indicating at-work productivity, and was assessed yearly over 6 years of follow-up.

Incidence and predictors of peritoneal metastases of gynecological origin: a population-based study in the Netherlands.

Objective: Peritoneal metastases (PM) are a challenge in gynecological cancers, but its appearance has never been described in a population-based study. Therefore, we describe the incidence of PM and identify predictors that increase the probability of peritoneal spread.

Methods: All ovarian, endometrial and cervical cancer patients diagnosed in the Netherlands between 1989 and 2015 were identified from the Netherlands Cancer Registry and stratified for PM.

Long-term sickness absence in a working population: development and validation of a risk prediction model in a large Dutch prospective cohort.

Background: Societal expenditures on work-disability benefits is high in most Western countries. As a precursor of long-term work restrictions, long-term sickness absence (LTSA) is under continuous attention of policy makers. Different healthcare professionals can play a role in identification of persons at risk of LTSA but are not well trained.
