Suxamethonium is commonly used as a muscle relaxant during electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). Prolonged apnoea associated with suxamethonium, mostly caused by pseudocholinesterase deficiency, is rare, but it can sometimes pose a great challenge in managing emergency situations due to patients' inability to breathe; occasionally, it can result in serious complications, including death. We report a case of a young male who had no prior exposure to suxamethonium and developed prolonged apnoea after induction with it.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated how sandblasting and laser treatment affect the bonding strength of composite material repairs in vitro, using a micro-hybrid composite and 120 samples.
  • Samples were divided into 12 groups; some received no treatment while others were sandblasted or laser-treated before bonding with adhesive and repaired using different composite materials.
  • Results showed that sandblasted samples had the highest bonding strength, followed by laser-treated samples, and a significant difference was found between these groups and the control group, with total-etch adhesive yielding better results than self-etch.

Introduction: Rare and ultra-rare genetic conditions significantly contribute to infant morbidity and mortality, often presenting with atypical features and genetic heterogeneity that complicate management. Rapid genome sequencing (RGS) offers a timely and cost-effective approach to diagnosis, aiding in early clinical management and reducing unnecessary interventions. This pilot study represents the inaugural use of next-generation sequencing (NGS) as a diagnostic instrument for critically ill neonatal and pediatric ICU patients in a Turkish hospital setting.

Within the literature on energy and environmental economics, it is generally acknowledged that renewable energy can improve environmental quality; however, certain papers suggest that an optimal level of the usage of renewable energy sources may exist. Consequently, the utilization of renewable energy sources can result in environmental degradation up to a certain threshold. Then, environmental quality can be enhanced through the continued application of renewables.
