Directional microwave emission from femtosecond-laser illuminated linear arrays of superconducting rings.

We examine the electromagnetic emission from two photo-illuminated linear arrays composed of inductively charged superconducting ring elements. The arrays are illuminated by an ultrafast infrared laser that triggers microwave broadband emission detected in the 1-26 GHz range. Based on constructive interference from the arrays a narrowing of the forward radiation lobe is observed with increasing element count and frequency demonstrating directed GHz emission.

Quality of Recovery After Rotator Cuff Repair With Interscalene Liposomal Bupivacaine Versus Interscalene Nerve Catheter.

Background: Interscalene nerve catheters have been proven to be effective in managing pain after rotator cuff repair (RCR) surgery. Liposomal bupivacaine is a newer approved therapy for use around the interscalene brachial plexus, but its analgesic efficacy has limited supporting data in various patient populations.

Purpose/hypothesis: The purpose of this study was to investigate the quality of recovery after arthroscopic RCR in patients who received either single-injection interscalene liposomal bupivacaine or an interscalene peripheral nerve catheter.

An experiment is proposed to measure the different Type-II QSH effect of an electron or hole in a two-dimensional (2D) metal by using the previously unexplored but relativistically gauge-invariant form of the generated 2D QSH Hamiltonian. Instead of using the electric field in the surface of the spin-polarized bands of a topological insulator or across the quantum well width as the probe, ones uses an applied azimuthal vector potential and an applied radial electric field as the tools to generate a spontaneously quantized spin current in an otherwise spin unpolarized 2D metal.

We present two cases of pneumothorax following bilateral mastectomy with bilateral pectoral blocks and immediate breast reconstruction.

A systematic review and meta-analysis of adherence to physical activity interventions among three chronic conditions: cancer, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes.

Background: Physical activity is effective for the prevention and treatment of chronic disease, yet insufficient evidence is available to make comparisons regarding adherence to aerobic physical activity interventions among chronic disease populations, or across different settings. The purpose of this review is to investigate and provide a quantitative summary of adherence rates to the aerobic physical activity guidelines among people with chronic conditions, as physical activity is an effective form of treatment and prevention of chronic disease.

Transforming RN Roles in Community-Based Integrated Primary Care (TRIP): Background and Content.

Given the large body of evidence linking physical and mental health and the impetus provided by health care reform and the Affordable Care Act, the time is ripe to engage nurses in community based, integrated primary care teams to holistically address psychiatric, mental health and substance abuse needs. There is a compelling need for curricular redesign and clinical innovation to prepare an RN workforce for practice in community based integrated primary care teams. Tunable Broadband Radiation Generated Via Ultrafast Laser Illumination of an Inductively Charged Superconducting Ring.

An electromagnetic transmitter typically consists of individual components such as a waveguide, antenna, power supply, and an oscillator. In this communication we circumvent complications associated with connecting these individual components and instead combine them into a non-traditional, photonic enabled, compact transmitter device for tunable, ultrawide band (UWB) radiation. This device is a centimeter scale, continuous, thin film superconducting ring supporting a persistent super-current.

Use of electronic health record documentation by healthcare workers in an acute care hospital system.

Acute care clinicians spend significant time documenting patient care information in electronic health records (EHRs). The documentation is required for many reasons, the most important being to ensure continuity of care. This study examined what information is used by clinicians, how this information is used for patient care, and the amount of time clinicians perceive they review and document information in the EHR.
