Regulation of Flavonoid Biosynthesis by the MYB-bHLH-WDR (MBW) Complex in Plants and Its Specific Features in Cereals.

Flavonoids are a large group of secondary metabolites, which are responsible for pigmentation, signaling, protection from unfavorable environmental conditions, and other important functions, as well as providing numerous benefits for human health. Various stages of flavonoid biosynthesis are subject to complex regulation by three groups of transcription regulators-MYC-like bHLH, R2R3-MYB and WDR which form the MBW regulatory complex. We attempt to cover the main aspects of this intriguing regulatory system in plants, as well as to summarize information on their distinctive features in cereals.

Integral assays of hemostasis in hospitalized patients with COVID-19 on admission and during heparin thromboprophylaxis.

Background: Blood coagulation abnormalities play a major role in COVID-19 pathophysiology. However, the specific details of hypercoagulation and anticoagulation treatment require investigation. The aim of this study was to investigate the status of the coagulation system by means of integral and local clotting assays in COVID-19 patients on admission to the hospital and in hospitalized COVID-19 patients receiving heparin thromboprophylaxis.

[Long-term follow-up study of post-COVID-19 patients].

Aim: To evaluate dynamic changes in the lungs, hemostasis system, immune system in different terms after coronavirus pneumonia.

Materials And Methods: Ventilation-perfusion single-photon emission computed tomography/computed tomography (CT), functional methods of lung investigation, evaluation of hemostasis system, immune status and specific humoral immune response were performed and evaluated in different terms after coronavirus pneumonia. A total of 71 patients were examined according to this protocol.

AB0 and rhesus blood groups as a risk factor for ARVI COVID-19.

The frequency of AB0 and Rhesus blood groups was studied in 12120 patients with COVID-19, 5180 convalescent plasma donors and 118801 healthy donors from Moscow, Smolensk, Yakutsk, Minsk and Gomel. In infected individuals, the frequency of blood group A was significantly higher than in uninfected individuals (41,54 % and 34,39 % respectively, p<0,05), and the frequency of blood group 0, on the contrary, was significantly lower (27,69 % and 36,71 %, p<0,05). Impact of pathogen reduction methods on immunological properties of the COVID-19 convalescent plasma.

Background And Objectives: COVID-19 convalescent plasma is an experimental treatment against SARS-CoV-2. The aim of this study is to assess the impact of different pathogen reduction methods on the levels and virus neutralizing activity of the specific antibodies against SARS-CoV2 in convalescent plasma.

Materials And Methods: A total of 140 plasma doses collected by plasmapheresis from COVID-19 convalescent donors were subjected to pathogen reduction by three methods: methylene blue (M)/visible light, riboflavin (R)/UVB and amotosalen (A)/UVA.

The Russian consensus document on topical issues of the diagnosis and treatment of obstructive jaundice syndrome was prepared by a group of experts in various fields of surgery, endoscopy, interventional radiology, radiological diagnosis and intensive care. The goal of this document is to clarify and consolidate the opinions of national experts on the following issues: timing of diagnosis of obstructive jaundice, features of diagnostic measures, the need and possibility of conservative measures for obstructive jaundice, and strategy of biliary decompression depending on the cause and level of biliary block.

How low can you go: Achieving postoperative outpatient pain control without opioids.

Background: Postoperative outpatient narcotic overprescription plays a significant role in the opioid epidemic. Outpatient opioid prescription ranges from 150 to 350 oral morphine equivalent (OME) for a laparoscopic cholecystectomy or appendectomy, with 75 OME (10 pills of 5 mg of oxycodone) being the lowest recommendation (National Institute on Drug Abuse, 2018). We hypothesized that the addition of nonopioid medications to the outpatient pain control regimen would decrease the need for narcotics.

Dose-reduced first cycle of chemotherapy for prevention of life-threatening acute complications in nonseminomatous germ cell tumor patients with ultra high tumor markers and/or poor performance status.

Purpose: Patients with metastatic nonseminomatous germ cell tumors (mNSGCT) and a high tumor burden or a poor performance status at initial diagnosis are at risk from potentially life-threatening early complications during or after the first chemotherapy cycle. The outcomes with dose-reduced first cycle of chemotherapy in this population of patients are not well established.

Methods: We performed a retrospective analysis of patients with mNSGCT and International Germ Cell Cancer Collaborative Group (IGCCCG) poor risk features.

[Severe postoperative intracranial hemorrhagic complications in a neurosurgical patient with von Willebrand disease not diagnosed before surgery (a case report and literature review)].

The article describes a rare clinical case of a patient with previously undiagnosed von Willebrand disease and basal meningioma; an intracranial neurosurgical intervention was complicated by delayed intracranial hematomas, both at the resected tumor site and distantly. The diagnosis of von Willebrand disease was established only after special hematology tests and only after surgery. Despite the use of specific therapy, the patient died due to intracranial hemorrhagic complications in the postoperative period.

The low dielectric losses of an isotopically pure single crystal Si sample were determined at a temperature of 20 mK and at powers equivalent to that of a single photon. Whispering Gallery Mode (WGM) analysis revealed large Quality Factors of order 2 × 10 (dielectric loss ~5 × 10) at high powers, degrading to 7 × 10 (dielectric loss ~1.4 × 10 at single photon energy.

Nuclear protein of the testis (NUT) midline carcinomas are rare aggressive carcinomas characterized by chromosomal rearrangements that involve the gene encoding the NUT. This article reviews the clinicopathologic features and the differential diagnosis of these malignancies.

Anticoagulant therapy with vitamin K antagonists (AVK) is an effective treatment and prevention of thrombosis. One of the major disadvantages of the AVK is a risk for serious bleeding. Prothrombin complex concentrates (PCC), fresh frozen plasma (FFP) and vitamin K1 are available for control of these situations.

Duplicate appendix with acute ruptured appendicitis: a case report.

Duplication of the appendix is a rare congenital anomaly that, in adults, is most often found incidentally during surgery for other reasons. Appendicitis in the duplicated appendix is very rare and has been reported less than 10 times in the medical literature. We describe a 33-year-old woman with worsening periumbilical pain, nausea, vomiting, and fever.

Chemotherapy intensification in patients with advanced seminoma and adverse prognostic factors.

Purpose: The aim of our study was to identify factors which influence survival in patients with disseminated seminoma in the good prognostic group according to IGCCCG, as well as to evaluate the impact of treatment intensification in patients with negative prognostic factors.

Methods: We analyzed the database of the patients with metastatic seminoma who had received treatment at our department from 1986 to 2005. Inclusion criteria were as follows: morphologically verified seminoma; favorable prognosis according to IGCCCG; modern chemotherapy regimen (EP ± bleomycin); AFP level <15 IU/ml; and HCG level <300 mIU/ml.

Prognostic factors and efficacy of different chemotherapeutic regimens in patients with mediastinal nonseminomatous germ cell tumors.

Purpose: Patients (pts) with mediastinal nonseminomatous germ cell tumors (MNGCT) are belonged to poor prognostic group by IGCCCG. We retrospectively studied the prognostic factors and efficacy of different chemotherapeutic regimen in pts with MNGCT.

Effect of the timing of orchiectomy on survival in patients with metastatic germ cell tumors of testis.

Objectives: Classically, orchiectomy (OE) is the first step of treatment in patients with metastatic germ cell tumors (mGCTs) of testis. However, some patients have severe symptoms of disease, which require immediate beginning of chemotherapy (CT) followed by OE. This retrospective analysis was performed to find the effect of time constraints of delayed OE on survival in patients with mGCT.

[Endogenous heparin-like syndrome: analysis of clinical observations].

One of the reasons for non-surgical bleeding is heparin-like syndrome (HLS), under which is understanded presence of heparin effect in the absence of it's exogenous application. The role of endogenous heparins perform glycosaminoglycans -- biologically active substances. HLS is accompanied by endothelium damage and discussed in the network of the systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS).

[Therapy of acute massive blood loss in a hemophilic patient: case report].

A case is reported of management of massive intraoperative blood loss in a male patient with severe hemophilia. Extirpation of hip pseudotumor with one-stage osteosynthesis with an intramedullary joint-pin in a 43 year old male patient was accompanied with 7.5 l blood loss.

Late relapses (>2 years) in patients with stage I testicular germ cell tumors: predictive factors and survival.

Objectives: Late relapses (>2 years) after completion of chemotherapy are rare and often platinum-resistant. There are limited data concerning late relapses in chemotherapy-naïve patients with stage I germ cell tumors. This retrospective analysis was performed to compare the outcome between patients with stage I germ cell tumors, who had late (≥2 years) and early (≥3 months and <2 years) relapse after orchiectomy.

A founder mutation in the MPL gene causes congenital amegakaryocytic thrombocytopenia (CAMT) in the Ashkenazi Jewish population.

Congenital amegakaryocytic thrombocytopenia (MIM #604498) (CAMT) is a rare inherited disease presenting as severe thrombocytopenia in infancy. Untreated, many CAMT patients develop aplastic anemia within the first decade of life; the only effective treatment of CAMT is bone marrow transplantation. CAMT is the result of the presence of homozygous or compound heterozygous mutations in the thrombopoietin receptor-encoding gene, MPL.

The structures of new oxaindane spiropyrans derived from 7-hydroxy-3',3'-dimethyl-3'H-spiro[chromene-2,1'-isobenzofuran]-8-carbaldehyde (SP1), namely N-benzyl-2-[(7-hydroxy-3',3'-dimethyl-3'H-spiro[chromene-2,1'-isobenzofuran]-8-yl)methylidene]hydrazinecarbothioamide, C(27)H(25)N(3)O(3)S, (I), at 120 (2) K, and N'-[(7-hydroxy-3',3'-dimethyl-3'H-spiro[chromene-2,1'-isobenzofuran]-8-yl)methylidene]-4-methylbenzohydrazide acetone monosolvate, C(27)H(24)N(2)O(4)·C(3)H(6)O, (II), at 100 (2) K, are reported. The photochromically active C(spiro)-O bond length in (I) is close to that in the parent compound (SP1), and in (II) it is shorter. In (I), centrosymmetric pairs of molecules are bound by two equivalent N-H.
