Primary malignant melanoma of the genitourinary tract is a rare lesion. We report the case of a 52-year-old man with primary manifestation of metastatic melanoma in the bladder. Multimodal therapy with transurethral tumor resection and systemic interferon/dacarbazine was not successful and the patient died 18 months later.

Extraosseous sarcomas of the Ewing family in adults are rare. We report a manifestation of this tumor entity in the periprostatic tissue of a 33-year-old male and discuss our treatment approach.

However the important issue of comparing topography of CMR and histological findings has not yet been investigated. Thus the current study was performed using an animal model of myocarditis.

Correct diagnosis of this disease can be quite difficult nowadays, after years of rare occurrence but current increasing incidence. Atypical manifestations of syphilis are often misinterpreted and lead to incorrect diagnosis and inappropriate therapy.

Design: Consecutive histomorphological case series.
Patients And Methods: Twelve eyes of 12 patients underwent penetrating keratoplasty by means of a 60-kHz femtosecond laser (IntraLase, Irvine, California) with a software specifically developed for corneal surgery.
The aim of the current study was to use an established animal model of autoimmune myocarditis and to judge the ability of cardiovascular MRI (CMR) in quantitatively measuring the extent of myocardial involvement compared with histopathological measurement of severity and extent. Experimental autoimmune myocarditis (EAM) was induced in 10 male Lewis rats. On day 21, all animals were investigated by CMR to measure the extent of late gadolinium enhancement (LGE).

Methods: Twelve rabbits underwent monocular intrastromal keratotomy performed with an fs laser at a preoperatively determined corneal depth of 160 to 200 microm. The fs laser-induced corneal repair response was compared with that of nonoperated control eyes and eyes treated with photorefractive keratectomy (PRK).
We present the case of a 57-year-old patient who was admitted with fever and disorientation. The cerebrospinal fluid showed a mild pleocytosis and increased protein content. MR imaging revealed multiple lesions, particularly in the subcortical white matter, with spot like central contrast enhancement.

Methods: Twelve human corneoscleral discs were inserted in an artificial anterior chamber. After corneal thickness measurement and tonometry, the cornea was mounted on a femtosecond laser (FEMTEC; 20/10 Perfect Vision, Heidelberg, Germany) through a contact lens (patient interface).
Purpose: To report clinical, in vivo confocal microscopy and ex vivo histopathologic findings of Salzmann nodular degeneration (SND).
Methods: A 48-year-old woman with symptoms of ocular irritation and decreased visual acuity caused by SND in both eyes was treated by corneal scraping and phototherapeutic keratectomy (PTK). Slit-lamp biomicroscopy, in vivo confocal microscopy, ex vivo light microscopy, immunohistology, and corneal topography were performed.
Patients with primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) are at increased risk for cholangiocarcinoma. This tumor usually is a fatal complication, median survival after diagnosis is less than six months. In an asymptomatic 29-year-old patient with long-standing PSC and ulcerative colitis, routine abdominal ultrasound demonstrated an irregular mass, 11 x 13 mm, in the gallbladder.

Popliteal cysts may occur with diseases of the knee and may cause several complications. We report about a patient with a popliteal cyst, that contained calcified concrements after a femur fracture and a complex knee injury and that we found to be a rare cause of persisting knee pain and effusions. The etiology of the concrements will be discussed, that we think are more likely to be posttraumatic loose joint bodies than traumatically induced chondromatosis.

Patients And Methods: Postmortem material comprising clinical data, autopsy protocols and histological sections obtained between 1976 and 1990 from 1,053 patients with leukaemia and malignant lymphomas following antineoplastic therapy was analysed retrospectively.
1% of thyroglossal duct cysts are supposed to develop carcinoma. In most cases papillary carcinoma is found deriving from ectopic thyroid tissue. As far as squamous cell carcinomas are concerned, worldwide only eleven cases have been reported so far.
