The primary aim of our study was to evaluate the demographic, clinical, and laboratory characteristics of sarcoidosis patients with musculoskeletal symptoms; investigate the relationship between arthritis development and various laboratory parameters (such as vitamin D, liver enzymes, and ACE levels); and compare the sarcoidosis-associated arthritis cases with those without. We also explored the factors influencing arthritis development and the role of biopsy in diagnosing sarcoidosis within rheumatology practice. This retrospective study analyzed 147 sarcoidosis patients from 2000 to 2024, categorized by the presence ( = 45) or absence ( = 102) of arthritis.

Background: Rabies in Turkey is maintained by dogs, but following a sustained spill-over, red fox mediated rabies had spread from the Aegean region to the central part of Türkiye. During the past four years from 2019 to 2023 large scale efforts used oral rabies vaccination (ORV) to control rabies in red foxes. Here, we present the results of the largest ORV campaign on the Asian continent.

Dyslexia is a specific learning disability that is neurobiological in origin and is characterized by reading and/or spelling problems affecting the development of language-related skills. The aim of this study is to reveal functional markers based on dyslexia by examining the functions of brain regions in resting state and reading tasks and to analyze the effects of special education given during the treatment process of dyslexia. A total of 43 children, aged between 7 and 12, whose native language was Turkish, participated in the study in three groups including those diagnosed with dyslexia for the first time, those receiving special education for dyslexia, and healthy children.

Importance: Understanding the cost of drug development can help inform the development of policies to reduce costs, encourage innovation, and improve patient access to drugs.

Objective: To estimate the cost of drug development by therapeutic class and trends in pharmaceutical research and development (R&D) intensity over time.

Design, Setting, And Participants: In this economic evaluation study, an analytical model of drug development constructed using public and proprietary sources that collectively cover data from 2000 to 2018 was used to estimate the cost of bringing a drug to market, overall and for specific therapeutic classes.

Background: Blunt abdominal trauma constitutes a significant portion of trauma cases and is often associated with liver injury. Given that high-grade liver injuries remain life-threatening, identifying patients who will likely require more vigilant attention and care is crucial. This study aims to determine the parameters that increase mortality in patients with high-grade liver trauma.

The rapid population growth, increasing global energy demand, climate change, and excessive use of fossil fuels have adversely affected environmental management and sustainability. Furthermore, the requirements for a safer ecology and environment have necessitated the use of renewable materials, thereby solving the problem of sustainability of resources. In this perspective, lignocellulosic biomass is an attractive natural resource because of its abundance, renewability, recyclability, and low cost.

Jingmen tick virus (JMTV) and Tacheng tick virus-1 (TcTV-1) are emerging tick-borne viruses that have been recently confirmed to be etiological agents of human disease in China. However, the ecology of JMTV and TcTV-1, especially their association with ticks in wildlife and livestock, remains largely unknown in Turkey. Eight hundred thirty-two tick specimens in 117 pools were collected in Turkey between 2020 and 2022 from wildlife ( and  = 10, 1.

Importance: The US medical device market is the world's largest, but estimates of the cost to bring a medical device to market are not available to help inform policy making and regulatory efforts to enhance device safety and innovation.

Objective: To estimate the mean expected capitalized cost of developing a novel therapeutic complex medical device.

Design, Setting, And Participants: In this economic evaluation, an analytical model of novel therapeutic complex medical device development using data from public and proprietary sources with coverage from 2000 through 2018 was used to estimate the cost, duration, and phase transition success probability associated with each stage of development.

The antiviral protein ZAP binds CpG dinucleotides in viral RNA to inhibit replication. This has likely led to the CpG suppression observed in many RNA viruses, including retroviruses. Sequences added to retroviral vector genomes, such as internal promoters, transgenes, or regulatory elements, substantially increase CpG abundance.

There is a worldwide need for reagents to perform SARS-CoV-2 detection. Some laboratories have implemented kit-free protocols, but many others do not have the capacity to develop these and/or perform manual processing. We provide multiple workflows for SARS-CoV-2 nucleic acid detection in clinical samples by comparing several commercially available RNA extraction methods: QIAamp Viral RNA Mini Kit (QIAgen), RNAdvance Blood/Viral (Beckman) and Mag-Bind Viral DNA/RNA 96 Kit (Omega Bio-tek).

Many lentiviral vectors used for gene therapy are derived from HIV-1. An optimal vector genome would include only the viral sequences required for transduction efficiency and gene expression to minimize the amount of foreign sequence inserted into a patient's genome. However, it remains unclear whether all of the HIV-1 sequence in vector genomes is essential.
