The pollution potential of a municipal wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) in Bursa, Türkiye, in terms of organochlorine pesticides (ΣOCPs), polychlorinated biphenyls (ΣPCBs), and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (ΣPBDEs), was investigated in air samples. Concentrations were determined using polyurethane foam disk samplers at key processes, such as the aeration tank (AT) and settling chamber (SC) of the WWTP and the background area (BA) at an urban site. Atmospheric concentration levels of PBDEs at the SC are 1.

Objective: Multiple sclerosis (MS) may present with predominant involvement of the spinal cord and optic nerve (MS/w-SCON) and mimic other autoimmune inflammatory demyelinating disorders (AIDD) such as neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD), and relapsing inflammatory optic neuritis (RION). Thus, biomarkers are required for effective differential diagnosis of AIDD.

Methods: Patients with MS/w-SCON (n = 20), MS without involvement of SCON (MS/wo-SCON) (n = 22), NMOSD (n = 16), RION (n = 15) and healthy individuals (n = 21) were included.

Forest fires are one of the most dangerous disasters that threaten the natural environment, life, and diversity worldwide. The frequency of these fires and the size of the impact area have been increasing in recent years. Remote sensing methods are frequently used to detect areas affected by forest fires, to map the burned areas, to follow the course of fires, and to reveal verious statistical data.

We present a case with systemic amyloidosis secondary to immunoglobulin light-chain amyloidosis (AL amyloidosis), which 18F-FDG PET/CT and 99mTc-PYP scintigraphy revealed amyloid deposition in the peritoneum, omentum, and mesentery. AL amyloidosis is characterized by the proliferation of clonal plasma cells and increased production and extracellular accumulation of immunoglobulin light chains, leading to organ malfunction. Even though AL amyloidosis can affect the gastrointestinal system, peritoneal involvement is rarely observed.

Mycosis fungoides (MF) is the most prevalent type of cutaneous T cell lymphomas. Studies on the prognosis of MF are limited, and no research exists on the potential of artificial intelligence to predict MF prognosis. This study aimed to compare the predictive capabilities of various machine learning (ML) algorithms in predicting progression, treatment response, and relapse and to assess their predictive power against that of the Cox proportional hazards (CPH) model in patients with early-stage MF.

Post-intubation tracheal stenosis (PITS) is a serious complication of prolonged intubation, often requiring surgical intervention. This study aims to present the long-term outcomes of patients with PITS who underwent tracheal resection and reconstruction, as well as to discuss the efficacy of these surgical methods in comparison to stenting. This retrospective study included patients treated for PITS at our center between October 2005 and October 2022.

In this study, it was aimed to assess the microstructural changes in the main central auditory pathway in cases with subjective tinnitus. In total, 101 subjects (52 cases with bilateral subjective non-pulsatile tinnitus and 49 healthy cases as the control group) were included in the study. Participants underwent pure tone audiogram and Diffusion Tensor Imaging-Magnetic Resonance Imaging (DTI-MRI) examination with a 3 Tesla MRI device.

Introduction: Treatment of de novo vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) into the transplanted kidney constitutes a clinical challenge. Herein, we present our data on patients who underwent endoscopic subureteric injection for the treatment of VUR following renal transplantation (RT) in our center.

Methods: The patients who underwent endoscopic subureteric injection for VUR into the transplanted kidney after RT in our department between 2008 and 2023 were reviewed retrospectively.

Aim: To investigate the morphometric and morphological development of the medial surface of the cerebrum in 40 fetal cadavers without external anomalies and pathologies between the gestational ages of 22 and 40 weeks.

Material And Methods: In this study, we measured the height and width of the cerebral hemisphere, cingulate sulcus, marginal sulcus, sulcus of the corpus callosum, calcarine sulcus, parieto-occipital sulcus, and central sulcus in each hemisphere. We examined these measures between genders and sides and assessed how these parameters developed over the course of gestational age (measured in months).

Article Synopsis
  • * A total of 24 patients underwent both imaging techniques within a week, with the results assessed against biopsy data for accuracy.
  • * The findings indicate that FAPI PET has higher sensitivity and specificity for identifying metastatic lymph nodes compared to FDG PET, suggesting FAPI PET could enhance diagnostic precision in HNSCC monitoring and treatment.

Invasive candidiasis is defined as an important infection that increases the duration of patients' hospital stay, costs, mortality and morbidity. In this study, we aimed to investigate the frequency of candidiasis in blood cultures of pediatric hematology patients, species, antifungal susceptibilities, and their effects on mortality. Patients with growth in their blood cultures at follow-up in the pediatric hematology clinic of our hospital between 2020 and 2024 were included in the study.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study compared the effectiveness of two newer methods for locating non-palpable breast lesions—Magnetic Seed (Magseed) and Radiofrequency Identification (RFID)—against traditional wire-guided techniques.
  • - Using turkey breasts and raisins as simulation models, both techniques achieved a 100% success rate in lesion localization, but Magseed had shorter operation times while RFID had shorter incisions.
  • - Overall, neither method showed a significant advantage over the other in terms of effectiveness or surgical outcomes, suggesting both can be used safely for lesion localization.

Article Synopsis
  • The study assessed SARS-CoV-2 variants in positive patients at Kanuni Sultan Suleyman Training and Research Hospital in Istanbul from January to November 2021, finding a total of 175,367 COVID-19 positive cases among 825,169 patients tested.
  • The most prevalent variants observed were B.1.1.7 (23.2%) and non-mutated (66.1%), with the highest positivity rates in the 6-15 and 66-75 age groups, while women showed higher prevalence across all variants.
  • Understanding these mutations is crucial for controlling COVID-19 transmission, diagnosing the virus, and monitoring immunity levels.

Background: Accurate staging of prostate cancer (PCa) is essential for determining the appropriate treatment and predicting outcomes. This study is comparing the effectiveness of Gallium-68 Prostate-Specific Membrane Antigen Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography (Ga-68 PSMA PET/CT) and multiparametric MRI (mpMRI) in preoperative locoregional staging and localizing PCa.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 78 patients who underwent both mpMRI and Ga-68 PSMA PET/CT scans before surgery.

Amyloidosis is a misfolded protein deposition disorder within the extracellular matrix, leading to dysfunction in the affected organ. Primary amyloidosis manifests as AL and ATTR subtypes, wherein AL is associated with plasma cell dyscrasias. Herein we present a case of a patient who underwent investigation due to the presence of bilateral reticulonodular lung infiltrates, suggestive of miliary tuberculosis.

Background: As the majority of T-cell lymphomas lack CD20 expression, cases of mycosis fungoides (MF) exhibiting aberrant CD20 expression are exceedingly uncommon.

Objectives: To comprehensively evaluate the clinical, histopathological and prognostic features of seven patients diagnosed with CD20+ MF.

Methods: This retrospective study involved seven cases of MF with aberrant CD20 expression.
