Objectives: Contemporary studies assessing the importance of the systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) in older patients presenting with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) are scarce. This study investigated the impact and prognostic value of the SII regarding long-term mortality in older patients with ACS.

Methods: The study included 401 older patients aged 75 years and above admitted with ACS between May 2015 and December 2022.

Introduction: Motor Imagery (MI) Electroencephalography (EEG) signals are non-stationary and dynamic physiological signals which have low signal-to-noise ratio. Hence, it is difficult to achieve high classification accuracy. Although various machine learning methods have already proven useful to that effect, the use of many features and ineffective EEG channels often leads to a complex structure of classifier algorithms.

Background: Postoperative pain is one of the most common problems after caesarean section (CS). Pain reduction and effective mobilisation after CS positively affect maternal and infant health.

Aim: This study aimed to determine the effects of acupressure applied to women after CS on pain intensity and first mobilisation distance.

The mechanism of the base-catalyzed thiol-epoxide stage of the thiol-ene/thiol-epoxide curing process was investigated using quantum chemical tools. This study searched for conventional tertiary amines with low to medium basicity as initiators to control reaction rates and tailor industrial applications. Challenges arise from the stronger basicity of initiators, leading to an uncontrollable and short curing application period.

Background: To evaluate the change in time in visual acuity, central macular thickness (CMT), and microperimetry (MP) findings in Behçet uveitis (BU) patients who were in remission with maintenance therapy.

Methods: This single center, retrospective, observational cohort study included twenty-five eyes of 25 patients with BU who were in remission during maintenance therapy. Best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), CMT, macular integrity index, average threshold, and fixation stabilities (P1 and P2) evaluated at six-month intervals were recorded.

Background/objectives: Anal incontinence is linked to pelvic floor dysfunction. Diagnosis involves assessing both the function and structure of the anorectal unit. Although transperineal ultrasound has gained attention as a less invasive option, its effectiveness as a diagnostic tool for evaluating the relationship between structure and function is still debated.

Purpose: To evaluate the relationship between the presence of reticular pseudodrusen (RPD) and the risk allele of ARMS2 rs10490924 variation in dry-AMD patients by using multimodal imaging. Also, to compare patients with and without RPD and healthy volunteers according to the distribution of the risk allele.

Methods: In this cross-sectional study, dry-AMD patients with (Group A, n = 50) and without (Group B, n = 50) RPD and healthy volunteers (Group C, n = 50) were enrolled.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the impact of acromegaly on retinal vascular health and its link to Gremlin-1 levels using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA).
  • It involved 53 acromegaly patients and 31 healthy controls, measuring retinal structures and Gremlin-1 concentrations through elaborate imaging and blood tests.
  • Results indicated that acromegaly patients exhibited significantly reduced retinal vascular densities and lower Gremlin-1 levels compared to controls, suggesting a negative association between acromegaly and vascular health independent of glucose tolerance.

Adipose tissue represents an organ that is highly dynamic and contributes toward vital survival events such as immune responses, lactation, metabolism fuel, and thermogenesis. Data emerging from recent studies support the notion of adipose tissue being organized into a complex system characterized by a discrete anatomy, elevated physiological plasticity, and specific vascular and nerve supplies. Vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP), along with its receptors, type 1 (VPAC1) and type 2 (VPAC2), has been implicated in various physiological and pathophysiological processes.

  • * The study focused on the relationship between two genetic variations in the MTHFR gene, C677T and A1298C, and osteoporosis among Turkish postmenopausal women, analyzing DNA from 200 volunteers.
  • * Results indicated that while the A1298C polymorphism is statistically linked to osteoporosis, the C677T variant showed no significant connection; further research is needed with larger samples to explore genetics and environmental influences on osteoporosis.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most common primary liver cancers worldwide and is often associated with poor prognosis due to drug resistance. Combination therapies demonstrate superior efficacy at lower drug dosages on cancer cells compared to single treatments, resulting in less drug resistance in the cells. This study investigates the synergistic anti-tumoral effects of calcitriol, the biologically active form of vitamin D, and sodium pentaborate pentahydrate (NaB) on HepG2 cells.

  • Monochromatic resin composites are being studied for their polishability, gloss, and color stability, particularly after immersion in coffee, which can cause discoloration.
  • Five different resin composites were tested for surface qualities before and after repolishing, using specific methods to assess roughness, gloss, and color changes.
  • Results indicated that Omnichroma was the best in terms of smoothness and gloss, while Charisma Diamond One showed significant discoloration, highlighting the effectiveness of repolishing in maintaining color stability.

Traumatic brain injury (TBI), also known as intracranial injury, is a common condition with the highest incidence rate among neurodegenerative disorders and poses a significant public health burden. Various methods are used in the treatment of TBI, but the effects of cold-induced traumatic brain injury have not been thoroughly studied. In this context, vinpocetine (VPN), derived from Vinca minor, exhibits notable anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

Due to the lack of a definitive effective treatment method that provides a complete cure and increases survival rates in uveal melanoma, the search for alternative treatments at the molecular level continues. In this context, we aimed to comparatively analyze the therapeutic effects of 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 (D2), 1a, 25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 (D3), bevacizumab and radiotherapy (RT) in a uveal melanoma cell line (MP41). Cytotoxicity was evaluated using XTT cell proliferation kit and Xcelligence cell analyzer system.
