Sustainable captive breeding practices for native Indonesian freshwater fish.

In Indonesia, the over-exploitation and habitat degradation of its biodiverse freshwater fish populations, has led to an urgent need for conservation of endangered fish species. A review is conducted on sustainable captive breeding practices for native Indonesian freshwater fish, with emphasis placed on the importance of ex situ conservation strategies. The key components of captive breeding such as ecological and biological research in the field; capturing, handling, and transportation of fish; selection of genetically diverse breeding stock; care and quarantine measures; feed acclimatization; and creation of reproductive facilities have been discussed.

Quality and kinematic characteristics of Bali bulls frozen semen with purified green tea extract epigallocatechin-3-gallate antioxidant addition in diluent.

Background: The preservation of semen quality and kinematic characteristics during cryopreservation is crucial for the reproductive success and genetic management of livestock, particularly in Bali bulls.

Aim: This study aimed to investigate the effect of adding purified green tea extract antioxidant Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) in tris egg yolk diluent on the quality and kinematic characteristics of frozen semen from Bali bulls.

Due to the lack of environmental stimuli found in their natural habitat, not all species of tiny fish can reproduce naturally in the conditions of captivity. Silver rasbora (Rasbora argyrotaenia) was used as the model organism in this study, which is the first to successfully use the hormonal technique of immersion to mass induce spawning and spermiation in small fish species. In this study, in order to find out the effect of immersion hormone treatment, two separate experiments in which commercial hormone Ovaprim™ was used for spawning induction and Ovagold™ for spermiation induction were conducted.

 The aim of this study was to determine the cut-off value of thyroglobulin (Tg) levels as a predictor of metastases in post total thyroidectomy patients with well-differentiated thyroid carcinoma (DTC).  A retrospective case-control study with an observational diagnostic approach was done.
