In West Africa, the long-term consequences of poor early psychosis recovery include poverty, neglect, and community ostracization. To understand the potential for digital health approaches to support early psychosis care in Ghana, we conducted a survey study among early psychosis patients and their caregivers about mental health needs, technology use and access, and interest in digital mental health. Hospital staff at Accra Psychiatric Hospital reviewed hospital medical records from January 2023 - December 2023 identifying young adults (≥18 years old) who had experienced psychosis symptoms for the first time within the prior five years.

Design: We conducted a retrospective analysis of the dabigatran treatment of acute stroke II (DATAS II) trial (ClinicalTrials.
Background: Stroke secondary to intracranial atherosclerotic disease (ICAD) is associated with high recurrence risk despite currently available secondary prevention strategies. In patients with systemic atherosclerosis, a significant reduction of stroke risk with no increase in intracranial or fatal hemorrhage was seen when rivaroxaban 2.5 mg twice daily was added to aspirin.

In this secondary analysis from the AcT (Alteplase Compared With Tenecteplase) trial, we assessed if there is variation in safety or efficacy of intravenous thrombolysis by infarct type in patients with no visible occlusion. We also determined if this effect differed between tenecteplase and alteplase.

Diversion of some cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and venous blood out of the cranium can limit ICP rises while maintaining cerebral perfusion pressure. Brain tissue itself is widely considered immutable in volume but prone to distortion (e.

We examined the feasibility of trial enrollment in MSU, its impact on acute stroke workflow metrics and functional outcomes at 90-120 days.
Methods: In this post hoc analysis, patients were divided into three groups based on enrollment site: MSU ( = 43), UAH ( = 273) and non-UAH ( = 1261).
Background: Clinical trials often struggle to recruit enough participants, with only 10% of eligible patients enrolling. This is concerning for conditions like stroke, where timely decision-making is crucial. Frontline clinicians typically screen patients manually, but this approach can be overwhelming and lead to many eligible patients being overlooked.

Objective: Our objective was to establish normal values for esophageal diameter based on age for patients between 1 and 17 years old.
In this case report, we present two clinical cases of penile strangulation caused by a bottleneck at the base of the penis. In the first case, corporal aspiration was used to decrease the blood that is trapped in the corpora due to the constriction. A rotating saw was used to incise the bottleneck in a full-thickness manner.

We studied outcomes related to the use of deferral of consent in the phase 3 Alteplase Compared to Tenecteplase (AcT) trial.
Methods: As part of our protocol, we captured methods of consent, participant withdrawals, door-to-randomization times, and door-to-needle times.
The burden of simultaneous acute code stroke activation (ACSA) is not known. We aim to assess the effect of simultaneous ACSA on workflow metrics and home time at 90 days in patients undergoing reperfusion therapies in the emergency department. Simultaneous ACSA was defined as code activation within 60 min of the arrival of any patient receiving intravenous thrombolysis, within 150 min of the arrival of any patient receiving endovascular thrombectomy, within 45 min of the arrival of any patient receiving no reperfusion therapies (based on mean local door-to-needle and door-to-puncture times).

The National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) at 24 h shows a strong, but imperfect, association with 90-day mRS. This study examines the association between 24-hour NIHSS and 90-day mRS and reasons for discrepancies.

Automated CT perfusion (CTP) software, which identifies blood flow abnormalities, enhances LVO diagnosis and patient selection for endovascular thrombectomy (EVT). This study evaluates the sensitivity of automated CTP images in detecting perfusion abnormalities in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) and LVO or medium vessel occlusion (MeVO), compared to CTA.

QEEG in acute stroke may predict short and long-term functional outcomes. The role of individual indices has not been studied in a meta-analysis.

Methods: We used a prospective cohort study design from 1 December 2022 to 30 November 2023. A checkbox was added within the electronic medical record (EMR) asking staff to indicate whether WPV occurred.

Introduction: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common arrhythmia. Catheter ablation is a successful rhythm control strategy in paroxysmal AF, but it has demonstrated dramatically lower AF-free survival rates in patients with persistent AF. In recent years, myriad novel rhythm control strategies have been developed, each with the promise of improved persistent AF ablation success.

While the bulk of this evidence comes from the population exposed occupationally and environmentally to Libby Amphibole (LA) due to the mining of contaminated vermiculite in Montana, studies from Italy and Australia are broadening the evidence to other sites of amphibole exposures. What these investigations have done, that most historical studies have not, is to evaluate amphibole asbestos separately from chrysotile, the most common commercial asbestos in the United States.

Aims: We assess the association of early ischemic changes on clinical outcomes and whether it differs between intravenous tenecteplase and Alteplase.
Methods: Data are from the phase 3, Alteplase compared to Tenecteplase (AcT) trial.
Rationale: Clinical outcomes in acute ischemic stroke due to medium vessel occlusion (MeVO) are often poor when treated with best medical management. Data from non-randomized studies suggest that endovascular treatment (EVT) may improve outcomes in MeVO stroke, but randomized data on potential benefits and risks are hitherto lacking. Thus, there is insufficient evidence to guide EVT decision-making in MeVO stroke.

Methods: Patients with baseline M2-middle cerebral artery (MCA), M3/M4-MCA, P2/P3/P4-posterior cerebral artery (PCA), A2/A3/A4-anterior cerebral artery (ACA) occlusions from the Alteplase Compared to Tenecteplase (AcT) trial were included.
