Crustaceans serve as a useful, simplified model for studying peptides and neuromodulation, as they contain numerous neuropeptide homologs to mammals and enable electrophysiological studies at the single-cell and neural circuit levels. Crustaceans contain well-defined neural networks, including the stomatogastric ganglion, oesophageal ganglion, commissural ganglia, and several neuropeptide-rich organs such as the brain, pericardial organs, and sinus glands. As existing mass spectrometry (MS) methods are not readily amenable to neuropeptide studies, there is a great need for optimized sample preparation, data acquisition, and data analysis methods.

The combination of multiple orthogonal interactions enables hierarchical complexity in self-assembled nanoscale materials. Here, efficient supramolecular polymerization of DNA origami nanostructures is demonstrated using a multivalent display of small molecule host-guest interactions. Modification of DNA strands with cucurbit[7]uril (CB[7]) and its adamantane guest, yielding a supramolecular complex with an affinity of order 10 m , directs hierarchical assembly of origami monomers into 1D nanofibers.

The endocytic pathway is of central importance for eukaryotic cells, as it enables uptake of extracellular materials, membrane protein quality control and recycling, as well as modulation of receptor signaling. While the ATPase p97 (VCP, Cdc48) has been found to be involved in the fusion of early endosomes and endolysosomal degradation, its role in endocytic trafficking is still incompletely characterized. Here, we identify myoferlin (MYOF), a ferlin family member with functions in membrane trafficking and repair, as a hitherto unknown p97 interactor.

The ATPase p97 (also known as VCP, Cdc48) has crucial functions in a variety of important cellular processes such as protein quality control, organellar homeostasis, and DNA damage repair, and its de-regulation is linked to neuromuscular diseases and cancer. p97 is tightly controlled by numerous regulatory cofactors, but the full range and function of the p97-cofactor network is unknown. The mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) regulates the synthesis of ribosomal proteins and translation factors in mammalian cells via phosphorylation of the La-related protein 1 (LARP1). Children that undergo intraocular surgery have an exaggerated postoperative response compared to adults that can result in significant postoperative challenges and reduced post-operative visual acuity. Rabbits were used as an animal model for investigating aging differences, treatment options, and surgical techniques for anterior chamber surgical interventions due to similarities in anterior chamber size and decreasing postoperative response with age. In our study, juvenile and adult rabbits underwent lensectomy with intraocular lens (IOL) insertion to determine how ocular RNA transcripts and proteins change with age.

Regular tumor follow-up care provided by ear-nose-throat (ENT) specialists ends when patients reach 5-year survival, but radiotoxicity is a continuous lifelong process. In this study, long-term head-and-neck cancer (HNC) survivors undergoing tumor follow-up (FU) care exceeding five years in a certified HNC center of a German university hospital were analyzed for newly diagnosed late sequelae after radio-(chemo-)therapy. Patients diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the oral cavity, larynx or oro-/hypopharynx receiving treatment between 1990 and 2010 with a tumor FU care beyond five years were reviewed retrospectively for signs of late sequelae after radio-(chemo-)therapy (R(C)T) including carotid artery stenosis, stenosis of the cranial esophagus, dysphagia, osteoradionecrosis, and secondary malignancies.
