The projection of a point cloud onto a 2D camera image is relevant in the case of various image analysis and enhancement tasks, e.g., (i) in multimodal image processing for data fusion, (ii) in robotic applications and in scene analysis, and (iii) for deep neural networks to generate real datasets with ground truth.

Diagnostic Concordance of Telemedicine as Compared With Face-to-Face Care in Primary Health Care Clinics in Rural India: Randomized Crossover Trial.

Background: With the COVID-19 pandemic, there was an increase and scaling up of provider-to-provider telemedicine programs that connect frontline health providers such as nurses and community health workers at primary care clinics with remote doctors at tertiary facilities to facilitate consultations for rural patients. Considering this new trend of increasing use of telemedicine, this study was conducted to generate evidence for patients, health providers, and policymakers to compare if provider-to-provider telemedicine-based care is equivalent to in-person care and is safe and acceptable in terms of diagnostic and treatment standards.

Objective: This study aims to compare the diagnosis and treatment decisions from teleconsultations to those of in-person care in teleclinics in rural Gujarat.

Muscle PGC-1α modulates hepatic mitophagy regulation during aging.

Aging has been suggested to be associated with changes in oxidative capacity, autophagy, and mitophagy in the liver, but a simultaneous evaluation of these key cellular processes is lacking. Moreover, skeletal muscle transcriptional coactivator peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma coactivator (PGC)-1α has been reported to mediate inter-organ signaling through myokines with regulatory effects in the liver, but the potential role of muscle PGC-1α on hepatic changes with age remains to be resolved. The aim of the present study was therefore to investigate 1) the effect of aging on mitochondrial autophagy and mitophagy capacity in mouse liver and 2) whether muscle PGC-1α is required for maintaining autophagy and mitophagy capacity in the liver during aging.

Short Stems and Stemless Shoulder Arthroplasty: Current Concepts Review.

Historically, the shoulder arthroplasty humeral component has been designed for the management of infections, tumours and fractures. In all these cases the stem was needed as a scaffold. Original humeral components were not developed for use in shoulder arthritis, so these designs and derivates had a long stem.

Heterogeneity in treatment effects across diverse populations.

Differences in patient characteristics, including age, sex, and race influence the safety and effectiveness of drugs, biologic products, and medical devices. Here we provide a summary of the topics discussed during the opening panel at the 2018 Johns Hopkins Center for Excellence in Regulatory Science and Innovation symposium on Assessing and Communicating Heterogeneity of Treatment Effects for Patient Subpopulations: Challenges and Opportunities. The goal of this session was to provide a brief overview of FDA-regulated therapeutics, including drugs, biologics and medical devices, and some of the major sources of heterogeneity of treatment effects (HTE) related to patient demographics, such as age, sex and race.

Management Strategies for Antipsychotic-Related Sexual Dysfunction: A Clinical Approach.

Antipsychotic medication can be often associated with sexual dysfunction (SD). Given its intimate nature, treatment emergent sexual dysfunction (TESD) remains underestimated in clinical practice. However, psychotic patients consider sexual issues as important as first rank psychotic symptoms, and their disenchantment with TESD can lead to important patient distress and treatment drop-out.

Accelerated rehabilitation following reverse total shoulder arthroplasty.

Background: Postoperative rehabilitation is considered essential and indeed routine practice following rTSA. However, the optimal approach to postoperative rehabilitation is unknown, based on protocols for anatomic TSA, and published literature is sparse, as is the quantity and quality of research evidence. The aim of this study is to outline the accelerated rehabilitation protocol (with immediate activity and no immobilization at all) following reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (rTSA) and assess its safety and effectiveness compared to the more conservative rehabilitation protocols of immobilization in a sling for 6 weeks and for 3 weeks.

Endoxifen: A new, protein kinase C inhibitor to treat acute and mixed mania associated with bipolar I disorder.

Objectives: Endoxifen is a protein kinase C inhibitor. The objective of the present phase III study was to demonstrate the safety and efficacy of endoxifen in treating bipolar I disorder (BPD I) patients.

Methods: A multicenter, double-blind, active-controlled study was conducted using a daily dose of 8 mg endoxifen compared to 1000 mg divalproex, the current standard treatment, in patients with BPD I acute manic episodes with/without mixed features.

Colchicine treatment impairs skeletal muscle mitochondrial function and insulin sensitivity in an age-specific manner.

The aim of the study was to investigate the impact of autophagy inhibition on skeletal muscle mitochondrial function and glucose homeostasis in young and aged mice. The transcriptional co-activator PGC-1α regulates muscle oxidative phenotype which has been shown to be linked with basal autophagic capacity. Therefore, young and aged inducible muscle-specific PGC-1α knockout (iMKO) mice and littermate lox/lox controls were used in three separate experiments performed after either saline or colchicine injections on two consecutive days: (1) Euthanization in the basal state obtaining skeletal muscle for mitochondrial respirometry, (2) whole body glucose tolerance test, and (3) in vivo insulin-stimulated 2-deoxyglucose (2-DG) uptake into skeletal muscle.

Introduction: Psychosocial rehabilitation is the process that facilitates opportunities for persons with chronic mental illness to reach their optimal level of independent functioning in society and for improving their quality of life. However, such psychosocial rehabilitation centers are limited in India.

Aims: The present study assesses psychosocial rehabilitation centers (of urban day-care and rural residential rehabilitation center) operated by Ashadeep Charitable Foundation, a civil service organization and its effect on health outcomes of patients living with chronic mental illness.

PGC-1α regulates mitochondrial properties beyond biogenesis with aging and exercise training.

Impaired mitochondrial function has been implicated in the pathogenesis of age-associated metabolic diseases through regulation of cellular redox balance. Exercise training is known to promote mitochondrial biogenesis in part through induction of the transcriptional coactivator peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ coactivator-1α (PGC-1α). Recently, mitochondrial ADP sensitivity has been linked to reactive oxygen species (ROS) emission with potential impact on age-associated physiological outcomes, but the underlying molecular mechanisms remain unclear.

Several new genera originally classified as the genus Phormidium, a polyphyletic and taxonomically complex genus within the Oscillatoriales, were recently described. The simple morphology of Phormidium does not reflect its genetic diversity and the delimitation of a natural group is not possible with traditional classification systems based on morphology alone. Therefore, this study used morphological, ecological, and molecular approaches to evaluate four populations morphologically similar to Ammassolinea, Kamptonema, and Ancylothrix (simple, curved, and gradually attenuated at the ends trichome), found in subtropical and tropical Brazilian regions.

Plunging ranula: an unusual multilocular presentation.

A 32-year-old male patient who was HIV positive presented at the Wits Oral Health Centre complaining of a large swelling of the left submandibular region of three years' duration. The swelling was nontender, soft and doughy on palpation and appeared to be crossing the midline. Bilateral submandibular and submental lymphadenopathy was present.

The value of three-dimensional imaging in the detection of a case of double pathology in the right maxilla of a patient.

A 14-year-old Black female was referred for management of an asymptomatic swelling in her right maxilla. The lesion measured 3cm across, was localised lateral to the right ala of the nose, felt bony hard in some areas and soft in others, and was continuous with the maxillary buccal plate. It occupied the right anterior vestibule but there was no palatal expansion.

Effects of light intensity and temperature on Cylindrospermopsis raciborskii (Cyanobacteria) with straight and coiled trichomes: growth rate and morphology.

Cylindrospermopsis raciborskii (Woloszynska) Seenayya et Subba Raju (Ordem Nostocales) is one of the most troublesome bloom-forming species in Brazil. Understanding the population dynamics of the different morphotypes of C. raciborskii (straight and coiled) could assist in the prediction of favourable conditions for the proliferation of this potentially toxin-producing species.

The aneurysmal bone cyst: report of a recent case encountered in dental practice.

Background: A sixteen year-old African male with a large, hard swelling at the left gonial angle, presented at a private dental clinic in January 2009. The swelling felt warm, pulsating and was intermittently symptomatic. The unilocular, expansile lesion seen on a panoramic radiograph was provisionally diagnosed as an aneurysmal bone cyst on the basis of age, symptoms and clinical features.

An assessment of the relative safety of dental x-ray equipment.

Concern among patients, often prompted by medical practitioners, regarding the harmful effects of radiation caused by dental x-ray procedures, has caused several patients of the dental school of the University of Pretoria to refuse dental radiographic procedures. Buch and Fensham in a previous article demonstrated that radiation doses to the eyes and thyroid resulting from a single pantomogram constituted less than 10% of that which would be imparted by a transatlantic flight in terms of added natural background radiation. Identification of a 2244 base pair interstitial deletion within the human ESR1 gene in the Spanish population.

Background: The ESR1 AGATA haplotype is composed of five markers located within introns 5 and 6 of the human oestrogen receptor 1 (ESR1) gene. This haplotype has been studied in several male urogenital tract anomalies and male infertility. In one of these studies, a deviation from Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium (DHW) was found for the ESR1 AGATA marker rs3020375 in two groups of healthy controls.
