Green and rapid preparation of long-term stable aqueous dispersions of fullerenes and endohedral fullerenes: The pros and cons of an ultrasonic probe.

A green, scalable, and sustainable approach to prepare aqueous fullerene dispersions (AFD) C, C, endohedral metallofullerene Gd@C, and their derivatives CCl, CCl, and supramolecular and ester-like derivatives, 10 fullerene species total, is proposed. For the first time, an immersed ultrasonic probe was used to preparing dispersions for pristine fullerenes without addends. Both ultrasound-assisted solvent-exchange and direct sonication techniques for AFD preparation using an immersed probe were tested.

The analysis of methylation of DNA promoter of SFRP2 gene in patients with hyperplastic processes of the endometrium.

Unlabelled: The hyperplastic processes of the endometrium can arise not only against the background of excessive influence of estrogen, but also against the background of epigenetic damages that affect apoptosis, cell proliferation, differentiation, and adhesion, and DNA reparation. The aim of our study was to investigate and analyze the status of methylation of the promoter of SFRP2 gene in patients with hyperplastic processes of the endometrium.

Materials And Methods: The study groups were the following: I - patients with endometrial hyperplasia (EH, n = 9); II - patients with endometrial intraepithelial neoplasia (EIN, n = 10), III - control groups: 1) with endometrial cancer (EC, n = 4), and 2) healthy women (n = 4).

GHSR DNA hypermethylation is a common epigenetic alteration of high diagnostic value in a broad spectrum of cancers.

Identification of a single molecular trait that is determinant of common malignancies may serve as a powerful diagnostic supplement to cancer type-specific markers. Here, we report a DNA methylation mark that is characteristic of seven studied malignancies, namely cancers of lung, breast, prostate, pancreas, colorectum, glioblastoma and B cell chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) (n = 137). This mark was defined by substantial hypermethylation at the promoter and first exon of growth hormone secretagouge receptor (GHSR) through bisulfite pyrosequencing.

Harnessing electron transfer from the perchlorotriphenylmethide anion to Y@C82(C(2v)) to engineer an endometallofullerene-based salt.

We show that electron transfer from the perchlorotriphenylmethide anion (PTM(-)) to Y@C82(C2v) is an instantaneous process, suggesting potential applications for using PTM(-) to perform redox titrations of numerous endohedral metallofullerenes. The first representative of a Y@C82-based salt containing the complex cation was prepared by treating Y@C82(C2v) with the [K(+)([18]crown-6)]PTM(-) salt. The synthesis developed involves the use of the [K(+)([18]crown-6)]PTM(-) salt as a provider of both a complex cation and an electron-donating anion that is able to reduce Y@C82 C2v).

Hypermethylation of TUSC5 genes in breast cancer tissue.

Aim: Breast cancer (BC) is one of the most common forms of cancer amongst females. Early diagnosis, prognosis and therapy plays crucial role in the survival of patients with breast cancer. The study was aimed on identification of potential markers for early BC diagnostics by means of genome-wide comparative analysis of gene expression in cancer and normal tissue of breast.

Diagnostic values of GHSR DNA methylation pattern in breast cancer.

DNA methylation patterns have been recognised as cancer-specific markers with high potential for clinical applications. We aimed at identifying methylation variations that differentiate between breast cancers and other breast tissue entities to establish a signature for diagnosis. Candidate genomic loci were analysed in 117 fresh-frozen breast specimens, which included cancer, benign and normal breast tissues from patients as well as material from healthy individuals.

Interleukin-6 -174G/C polymorphism in breast cancer and uterine leiomyoma patients: a population-based case control study.

Unlabelled: A common G/C polymorphism at position -174 of the interleukin-6 (IL-6) gene promoter is thought to affect the expression level of this gene, thus predisposing to a variety of diseases, including tumorigenesis.

Aim: To investigate the association of the -174 G/C IL-6 polymorphism with breast cancer and uterine leiomyoma in Ukrainian population.

Methods: We genotyped the -174 G/C IL-6 polymorphism in a group of healthy Ukrainians by pyrosequencing and compared the results to those previously published for other Caucasian populations.

Identification of new DNA markers of endometrial cancer in patients from the Ukrainian population.

Aim: To identify clinically significant molecular markers of endometrial cancer.

Materials And Methods: Cancer and normal endometrial tissue samples from 20 patients of the Gynecology Clinic of Odessa State Medical University (Odessa, Ukraine) with confirmed endometrial cancer were compared for SSR and ISSR polymorphisms. Identified polymorphic fragments from anonymous genome regions situated between microsatellite repeats underwent direct DNA sequencing; analysis of their homology to sequences from human genome database has been performed.

[The chemotherapeutic efficacy of ciprofloxacin and lomefloxacin in the inhalation method of infecting white mice with tularemia].

Peculiarities of the protective effect of ciprofloxacin and lomefloxacin were studied and the optimal regimens of their use were determined in multifactor experiments on albino mice infected with finally dispersed aerosol of the virulent strain of the European subspecies of Francisella tularensis. As for protective effect, the fluoroquinolones provided high percentage of the animal survival. The optimal course of the treatment was at least 7 days.

[Protective properties of doxycycline, rifampicin and sisomycin in experimental pulmonary tularemia of albino mice].

The protective effects of doxycycline, rifampicin and sisomicin were compared in a multifactor experiment with animal infection induced by finally dispersed aerosol of a virulent strain of the European variant of the tularemia causative agent and the optimal regimens for the antibiotic use were determined. By the values of the protective effect rifampicin and sisomicin were shown to provide a high percentage of the animal survival: more than 80 and up to 50-70 per cent of the animals survived when the aerosol infective doses were 100 and 10,000 LD50, respectively. A characteristic feature of doxycycline was its activity only in the infection induced by low doses of the biological agent.

The ability of Ukrain, a cytostatic and immunomodulating semisynthetic compound of thiophosphate-modified alkaloids of Chelidonium majus L., to modify the effects of irradiation was studied in CBA/J mice using the dosage of the drug from 0.2 to 10 mg/kg.

[Cytophotometric evaluation of alkaline phosphatase activity in neutrophilic granulocytes and fibroblasts during wound healing in rats].

The most informative indexes of alkaline phosphatase activity in neutrophil granulocytes from the peripheral blood and in neutrophil granulocytes and fibroblasts from the wound were defined in the experimental study carried out on 60 rats. These indexes were used to reveal the relationship between blood system reactions and inflammatory and regeneration processes in the wound tissue. The division of neutrophil granulocytes into three functional groups in accordance with alkaline phosphatase activity was demonstrated to be reasonable.
