Several catastrophic ammonium nitrate (AN) explosion accidents have been reported during the last decades. Previous studies have been mainly focused on investigating adverse effects caused by the AN explosion, while only a few systematically analyzed the consequences and impacts of AN explosions. Single-electron transfer (SET) is one of the most common reaction mechanisms for degrading organic micropollutants (OMPs) in advanced oxidation processes. We collected 300 SET reactions (CO, SO, Cl, and Br-mediated) and calculated three key parameters for understanding the SET mechanism: aqueous phase free energies of activation (ΔG), free energies of reactions (ΔG), and orbital energy gaps of reactants (E-E). Then, we classified the OMPs according to their structure, developed and evaluated linear energy relationships of the second-order rate constants (k) with ΔG, ΔG, or E-E in each class.

The changing behavior of organic matter in a full-scale water treatment process was characterized based on the three-dimensional excitation-emission matrix (3D-EEM) and Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry (FTICR-MS). Polyaluminum chloride (PAC) as a coagulant can help to effectively remove soluble microbial by-products-like and aromatic protein-like substances during coagulation and sedimentation, corresponding to tannin and coagulated aromatic regions. The leakage of soluble microbial products during sand filtration resulted in an increase in the intensity of biomass-like regions.

Scavenged energy from ambient vibrations has become a promising energy supply for autonomous microsystems. However, restricted by device size, most MEMS vibration energy harvesters have much higher resonant frequencies than environmental vibrations, which reduces scavenged power and limits practical applicability. In this work, a facile strategy of alkylamine-confined growth is proposed for the synthesis of thickness-tunable metal hydroxide/oxide nanosheets. Specifically, ultrathin cobalt hydroxide and cobaltous oxide hybrid (Co(OH)-CoO) nanosheets (Co-O NSs) with a thickness in the range of 2-6 nm (5-13 atomic layers) are synthesized by using alkylamines with different carbon chain lengths as the ligand to modulate vertical coordination ability.

We present a systematic investigation of the resonant radiation emitted by localized soliton-like wave-packets supported by second-harmonic generation in the cascading regime. We emphasize a general mechanism which allows for the resonant radiation to grow without the need for higher-order dispersion, primarily driven by the second-harmonic component, while radiation is also shed around the fundamental-frequency component through parametric down-conversion processes. The ubiquity of such a mechanism is revealed with reference to different localized waves such as bright solitons (both fundamental and second-order), Akhmediev breathers, and dark solitons.

Here, using some model conjugated polymers as examples, we report a class of highly conductive and optically transparent polymer ultrathin layers.
