The adenoidal mast cells were obtained from the adenoids by enzymatic dispersion of the tissue by enzyme collagenase. Mast cells constituted 1-2% of total cell population and were morphologically intact, as judged by light microscopy. They could be sensitized passively in vitro with homologous reaginic serum and released histamine after challenge with specific antigen.

The treatment of infections in the ring of Waldeyer in children is an ever present problem. Most infections are caused by group A streptococci, and various antibiotics are routinely used for their treatment. In many cases, however, this treatment is ineffective as demonstrated by prolonged disease duration and recurrences.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFForty children with life-endangering tumors localized in the ENT region were treated during the last 10 years at two clinics in Poland: the Oncological Clinic in Warsaw and the Otolaryngological Children's Clinic in Lódź. In this group there were 29 malignant tumors at different pathology, and 11 non-malignant tumors that became life-endangering because of their size and localization. These children were treated, dependent on the nature of the tumor, with surgery, chemotherapy and X-ray therapy.
