Ischemic and/or infarction events of the alimentary canal are uncommon but potentially disastrous injuries of the digestive system that often portend a poor prognosis. Alimentary ischemia occurs when the vascular supply to one of the component conduit organs is disrupted or blocked, resulting in decreased tissue perfusion, subsequent necrosis, perforation, and even death if proper perfusion is not restored. We report a case here of a 67-year-old female who originally presented to the emergency department (ED) with nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and progressively worsening abdominal pain.

Illness progression, stages and recovery trajectories of EDs are still poorly characterised. The STORY study dynamically and longitudinally assesses young people with different EDs (restricting; bingeing/bulimic presentations) and illness durations (earlier; later stages) compared to healthy controls.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA public health registry and intervention was created in response to the Flint water crisis to identify and refer exposed individuals to public health services to ameliorate the deleterious impact of lead exposure. Traditional technology architecture domains, funded scope of work, as well as community input were considered when defining the requirements of the selected solutions. A hybrid software solution was created using Research Electronic Data Capture (REDCap) to deploy an open participant survey and bypass requirements to create user accounts, and Epic to manage deduplication and participant communication and tracking.

Evidence-based treatment options include a range of psychotherapies and some, mainly adjunctive, pharmacological interventions. However, around 20-30% of people fail to respond to the best available treatments and develop a persistent treatment-refractory illness.

However, the symmetrical two-portal structure typically leads to aggregated nanomaterials. We demonstrate that fluorescent quantum dot (QD) aggregates linked with CBs can be broken-up, retaining CBs adsorbed at their surface, via inclusion of guests in the CB cavity.

This pandemic has created a sustained stress on the modern healthcare system, with unforeseen and potential drastic effects. Although the initial focus during this pandemic has been preparedness and response directed to the pandemic itself, traumatic injury has continued to remain a common problem that requires immediate evaluation and care to provide optimal outcomes.

However, there is limited information on outcomes for both revascularization strategies in the same population. The study evaluated temporal changes in risk profile, procedural characteristics, and clinical outcomes for PCI- and CABG-treated patients.

We further examine Brief COPE validity with respect to self- and other-directed aggression because emerging adulthood represents a distinct developmental time period in which stress, poor coping, and aggression intersect. Drawing on archival data ( = 576) from a larger investigation of college student health, this cross-sectional survey study tested (1) four competing Brief COPE factor structures, (2) Brief COPE factor associations with aggression, and (3) stress by coping interactions predicting aggression outcomes.

Feminizing genitoplasty typically involves inversion of penile skin as a neovagina, urethral shortening, and glans reduction to create a neoclitoris. Masculinizing genitoplasty is more complex, typically is performed in multiple stages, and has more inherent urologic risks.

Abnormalities of mesonephric ducts are rare congenital conditions, which can present with vague symptoms in otherwise healthy men. Zinner's syndrome is the association of an enlarged seminal vesicle cyst with ipsilateral renal agenesis, which can be symptomatic and require operative interventions. We present the case of an otherwise healthy 24-year-old man who presented with a symptomatic 15 cm seminal vesicle cyst, which was completely excised using a robot-assisted approach.

The LXR agonist VTP-38543 showed promising results in improving barrier function and inflammatory responses in model systems.
Objective: To assess the safety, tolerability, cellular and molecular changes, and clinical efficacy of the topical VTP-38543 in adults with mild to moderate atopic dermatitis (AD).
Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy of an expanded form of Constraint-Induced Movement Therapy (eCIMT) that renders CIMT, originally designed for treating mild-to-moderate upper-extremity hemiparesis, suitable for treating severe hemiparesis.
Methods: Twenty-one adults ≥1 year after stroke with severe upper-extremity hemiparesis (with little or no capacity to make movements with the more-affected hand) were randomly assigned to eCIMT (n = 10), a placebo-control procedure (n = 4), or usual care (n = 7). The participants who received usual care were crossed over to eCIMT four months after enrollment.
Background: Alcohol use is associated with angina incidence, but associations between alcohol use and experience of angina among patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) have not been described.
Methods: Outpatients with CAD from 7 clinics in the Veterans Health Administration were surveyed; alcohol use was measured using the validated Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test-Consumption scores categorized into 6 groups: nondrinking, low-risk drinking, and mild, moderate, severe, and very severe unhealthy alcohol use. Three domains of self-reported angina symptoms (frequency, stability, and physical function) were measured with the Seattle Angina Questionnaire.
Introduction: Pregnancy and the first few years of a child's life are important windows of opportunity in which to equalise life chances. A Better Start (ABS) is an area-based intervention being delivered in five areas of socioeconomic disadvantage across England. This protocol describes an evaluation of the impact and cost-effectiveness of ABS.

Methods: Pre (3 months) - post (12 months) intervention study conducted from June 2014 through September 2015 at a tertiary care medical center with a large hospitalist program caring for patients scattered in 4 buildings and 16 floors. Hospitalists were assigned to a particular nursing unit (geographic assignment) with a goal of having over 80% of their assigned patients located on their assigned unit.
Background: Excellent communication is a necessary component of high-quality health care. We aimed to determine whether a training module could improve patients' perceptions of physician communication behaviors, as measured by change over time in domains of patient experience scores related to physician communication.
Study Design: We designed a comprehensive physician-training module focused on improving specific "etiquette-based" physician communication skills through standardized simulations and physician coaching with structured feedback.
Introduction: Evidence has demonstrated that tumor size is related to adverse oncologic outcomes in small renal tumors (≤ 4 cm). We evaluated the association of adverse pathologic features (APF) with tumor size and survival in patients with a small renal mass (SRM).
Materials And Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the pathologic characteristics of 380 surgically resected SRMs from a single institution.
