The forehead flap is one of the oldest recorded surgical techniques for nasal reconstruction. As the gold standard for nasal soft tissue reconstruction, the forehead flap provides a reconstructive surgeon with a robust pedicle and large amount of tissue to reconstruct almost any defect. Modifications provided by masters like Burget and Menick have only increased the utility of this exceptional flap.

Craniofrontonasal dysplasia's (CFND's) phenotypic range includes hypertelorism, coronal craniosynostosis, frontonasal dysplasia, and digital anomalies. The variable expression is paradoxical for an X-linked syndrome because hemizygous males are less affected than heterozygous females. We describe a case of CFND due to a c.

Background: Improvements in midfacial rejuvenation have allowed for more predictable and reliable results; however, there are still common problems that can lead to a suboptimal outcome. Specifically, we aim to achieve an appropriate vector of lift, adequate camouflaging of the nasojugal groove, especially medially, as well as to obtain a durable, long-term result.

Objective: We aim to demonstrate that utilizing bony fixation to obtain midface lift will allow for better control of vector placement as well as lead to a more durable result and, thus, a better long-term outcome.

Background: The Kapetansky flap was described to repair a whistle deformity or central vermilion defect following a primary bilateral cleft lip repair. The authors studied a modification of this technique, called the Whistle (wide-hinged island swing transposition labial enhancement) flap, to correct a wide array of secondary cleft lip deformities.

Methods: Patients with secondary cleft lip deformity who underwent the Whistle flap correction were studied (n = 21).

Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluated the feasibility of using RAND quality indicators to assess hip fracture care through a retrospective chart review of 111 patients from 1998 and 2003.
  • Compliance with quality measures was notably high at 88%, but only physician notes alone showed an 81% adherence rate, indicating the importance of reviewing all chart components for a comprehensive assessment.
  • The findings emphasize the necessity of meticulous chart abstraction in reporting quality of care and highlight potential issues with quality measures that exhibit ceiling effects, which could distort evaluations in pay-for-performance programs.

A series of hairpin pyrrole/imidazole polyamides linked to a Hoechst 33258 (Ht) analogue (5-7) were synthesized on solid-phase by adopting an Fmoc technique using a series of PyBOP/HOBt mediated coupling reactions. The dsDNA binding properties of Ht-polyamides 5-7 were determined by thermal denaturation experiments. Hairpin Ht-polyamides 5-7 bound to dsDNA sequences 16 and 18 show DeltaTm values that are 14-18 degrees higher than linear Ht-polyamides bound to the same sequences.
