Objective: To compare the prognoses associated with positive surgical margins (PSMs) according to their urethral, ureteric and/or soft tissue locations in patients with pN0 M0 bladder cancer who have not undergone neoadjuvant chemotherapy.
Patients And Methods: A retrospective, case-control study was conducted between 1991 and 2011 using data from 17 academic centres in France. A total of 154 patients (cases) with PSMs met the eligibility criteria and were matched according to centre, pT stage, gender, age and urinary diversion method with a population-based sample of 154 patients (controls) from 3651 patients who had undergone cystectomies.
Objective: To prospectively compare the surgical and pathological outcomes obtained with robot-assisted laparoscopic partial nephrectomy (RAPN) or laparoscopic PN (LPN) for renal cell carcinoma in a multicentre cohort.
Patients And Methods: Between 2007 and 2011, 265 nephron-sparing surgeries were performed at six French urology departments. The patients underwent either RAPN (n = 220) or LPN (n = 45) procedures.
Carcinoma-associated fibroblasts are key contributors of the tumor microenvironment that regulates carcinoma progression. They consist of a heterogeneous cell population with diverse origins, phenotypes, and functions. In the present report, we have explored the contribution of bone marrow (BM)-derived cells to generate different fibroblast subsets that putatively produce the matrix metalloproteinase 13 (MMP13) and affect cancer cell invasion.

Methods: Using a national multicentric retrospective dataset, we identified all patients with UTUC who underwent a RNU between 1995 and 2010 (n = 482). Intravesical recurrence was tested as a prognostic factor for survival through univariable and multivariable Cox regression analysis.
Introduction: According to the French regulatory authorities, the highest level of disinfection must be achieved for flexible cystoscopes, as they enter a sterile cavity, the current method being peracetic acid disinfection and sterile water terminal rinsing.
Material And Methods: The concordance between regulations and the routine was researched using a self-administered questionnaire sent to all French urologists.
Results: Responses from 78 urology units, totalling 317 urologists (26% response rate) were analysed.
Introduction: Photoselective vaporisation of the prostate (PVP) is a surgical alternative to transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP). The goal of this study was to compare the new AMS MOXY fiber which provide 180 watts power to the 4090 fiber 120 watts power source currently used in benign prostatic hyperplasia. The assessment criteria were peroperative and early postoperative data.

Purpose: To clarify the characteristics of acute pyelonephritis encountered in a population of kidney transplant patients and to discern risk factors occurring during the first year after transplantation.
Purpose: At the time of castration resistance, it is recommended to realize hormonal manipulations before chemotherapy. We evaluated the impact of a switch from GnRH agonist to antagonist in patients with castration-resistant prostate cancer on PSA and testosterone levels at 3 months.
Methods: Retrospectively, 17 patients from 5 different centers undergoing androgen deprivation therapy and presenting rising PSA confirmed on 3 blood samples 2 weeks apart and despite a castrate testosterone level (<0.
Objective: The goal of this article is to review and discuss the various and numerous links between metabolic syndrome (MetS) and bladder, specially overactive bladder syndrome.
Methods: Pubmed/Medline analysis, without date or language limits, was conducted using the following keywords: "metabolic syndrome" and "bladder (or "incontinence" or "overactive bladder"). All types of papers were analysed (117).
Lymphatic dysfunctions are associated with several human diseases, including lymphedema and metastatic spread of cancer. Although it is well recognized that lymphatic capillaries attach directly to interstitial matrix mainly composed of fibrillar type I collagen, the interactions occurring between lymphatics and their surrounding matrix have been overlooked. In this study, we demonstrate how matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-2 drives lymphatic morphogenesis through Mmp2-gene ablation in mice, mmp2 knockdown in zebrafish and in 3D-culture systems, and through MMP2 inhibition.

Objective: To determine whether use of renal grafts with multiple arteries affects long-term graft survival and function.
The prognosis for testicular cancer is excellent, with a 5-year survival rate greater than 95%. Patients affected can therefore expect to be cured after treatment. Successful treatment requires assessment of the condition at the various stages of its management.

Methods: A prospective study of 456 patients who underwent transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) or transurethral resection of the bladder (TURB) at 2 urological centers in France, between January 2008 and March 2009. All patients had urine cultures preoperatively, on the day of catheter removal, and at 1 month postoperatively.
Background: Evidence supporting the widespread use of GreenLight High Performance System (HPS) 120-W photoselective vaporization of the prostate (PVP) is lacking.
Objective: To assess the noninferiority of PVP compared with transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) on urinary symptoms and the superiority of PVP over TURP on length of hospital stay.
Design, Setting, And Participants: A multicenter randomized controlled trial was conducted.
Six targeted agents [sorafenib, sunitinib, temsirolimus, bevacizumab (plus interferon), everolimus and pazopanib] have been approved for the treatment of patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma. As disease progression is inevitable, most patients will receive several lines of treatment. However, the choice regarding which sequence of drugs to use remains unclear, particularly concerning the drug class, i.

The objective of the study was to investigate the epidemiology of ESBL producers in a department of urology.
Patients And Methods: This was a retrospective, monocentric study, which included all patients with positive culture showing an ESBL producing enterobacteriaceae in a department of urology between 2005 and 2009 included.
Purpose: To demonstrate the value of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) in the management of Bosniak type 2F and 3 renal cysts on CT.
Patients And Methods: Retrospective study of 14 patients with 15 Bosniak type 2F and 3 renal cysts on contrast enhanced CT. All patients underwent CEUS of the kidneys after injection of SonoVue(®).
Background: Escherichia coli, the main bacteria found in recurrent urinary tract infections (UTI), is now frequently resistant to several currently used antibiotic treatments making new solutions essential. In this study, we evaluated the association propolis and proanthocyanidins type A to reduce bacterial anti-adhesion activity of E. coli on urothelial cells.

It uses the light energy produced by a laser source to destroy and remove urethral obstruction due to BPH. Its main advantage over transurethral resection of prostate is the minimal bleeding allowing a short urethral catheterization and hospital stay.

However, it is unknown whether PHD2 can influence arteriogenesis. Here we studied the role of PHD2 in collateral artery growth by using hindlimb ischaemia as a model, a process that compensates for the lack of blood flow in case of major arterial occlusion.

The main morbidity of TURP is bleeding, which leads to clot retention and blood transfusion. Newer techniques have appeared, and photovaporization of the prostate (PVP) with the GreenLight™ laser has been developed to reduce the morbidity of bladder outflow surgery.

Lymphatic vasculature displays distinctive features than blood vasculature, and mechanisms underlying the formation of new lymphatic vessels during physiological and pathological processes are still poorly documented. Most studies on lymphatic vessel formation are focused on organism development rather than lymphangiogenic events occurring in adults.

In order to verify that these objectives are achieved, we compared our results of pelvic lymphadenectomy by laparotomy and by laparoscopy for the past 12 years.
