Background: To report the baseline phase of the SIEROEPID study on SARS-CoV-2 infection seroprevalence among health workers at the University Hospital of Verona, Italy, between spring and fall 2020; to compare performances of several laboratory tests for SARS-CoV-2 antibody detection.

Methods: 5299 voluntary health workers were enrolled from 28 April 2020 to 28 July 2020 to assess immunological response to SARS-CoV-2 infection throughout IgM, IgG and IgA serum levels titration by four laboratory tests. Association of antibody titre with several demographic variables, swab tests and performance tests (sensitivity, specificity, and agreement) were statistically analyzed.

Purpose: To evaluate the prevalence of two recurrent somatic mutations (-124 C>T and -146 C>T) within the promoter of the gene encoding telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT) as well as their relationship with TERT level, telomeres length, and outcome in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinomas (HNSCCs).

Methods: We evaluate the prevalence of TERT promoter mutations, TERT levels, and telomere length in paired cancer tissue and adjacent mucosa (AM) in a series of HNSCCs.

Results: Cancer tissue and AM specimens from 105 patients were analyzed.

Post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorders (PTLD) represent a severe complication in transplanted patients and Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) is the main driver. Besides immunodepression, immune activation/chronic inflammation play an important role in both virus reactivation and expansion of EBV-positive B cells. The aim of this study was to assess the impact of immunosuppressive strategies on factors involved in the PTLD's pathogenesis.

A method based on pressurized liquid extraction and LC-MS/MS has been developed for determining nine benzoylureas (BUs) in fruit, vegetable, cereals, and animal products. Samples (5 g) were homogenized with diatomaceous earth and extracted in a 22 mL cell with 22 mL of ethyl acetate at 80 degrees C and 1500 psi. After solvent concentration and exchange to methanol, BUs were analyzed by LC-MS/MS using an IT mass analyzer, which achieved several transitions of precursor ions that increase selectivity providing identification.

An innovative procedure to separate the 3 isomeric sn-monoacylglycerols (MAG) classes (sn-1-, sn-2-, sn-3-MAG) is described. MAGs, obtained by chemical deacylation of triacylglycerols (TAGs), have been derivatized with (S)-(+)-1-(1-naphtyl)ethyl-isocyanate, and the resulting urethane derivatives have been separated by normal-phase high-performance liquid chromatography. This procedure allows resolution as diasteroisomers of the 2 enantiomeric classes (sn-1-MAG and sn-3-MAG), without the need of a chiral column, and to separate also the isomeric sn-2-MAG class; moreover, by introducing a chromophoric moiety, this reagent makes possible the ultraviolet detection of the analyte molecules.
