Introduction: Villitis of unknown etiology (VUE), chronic chorioamnionitis (CC), chronic deciduitis (CD) and chronic histiocytic intervillositis (CHI) are most likely the result of a pathologic immune reaction caused by maternal anti-fetal rejection. We analyzed placentas of twin pregnancies with manifestation of these lesions in monozygotic and dizygotic instances.
Methods: Twin pregnancies from our archive with at least one chronic inflammatory lesion were selected for further analysis and assessed concerning zygosity (gender, chorionicity, short tandem repeat (STR)-analysis).

This white paper summarizes highlights of the 5th International One Health Congress in Saskatoon, Canada, June 2018 and serves as a roadmap for the future, detailing several concrete action points to be carried out in the run-up to the 6th World One Health Congress in Edinburgh, Scotland, June 2020.

On both farms, at least one worker had coronavirus disease-associated symptoms before the outbreak. Variations in mink-derived viral genomes showed between-mink transmission and no infection link between the farms.

Dizygotic twin pregnancies with discordant manifestation of abnormalities with unclear etiology are of interest because they arise in the same environment. We present a dizygotic third trimester twin placenta with discordant villous maturation, one placenta lacking developed syncytiocapillary membranes. The twins were eutrophic with no perinatal or postnatal complications.

Use of antimicrobials in animals poses a potential risk for public health as it contributes to the selection and spread of antimicrobial resistance. Although knowledge of the negative consequences of extensive antimicrobial use in humans and animals accumulated over the decades, total therapeutic antimicrobial use in farm animals in the Netherlands doubled between 1990 and 2007. These bats were euthanised three months after the first evidence of an EBL1a infection in the colony.
