The retinal rod outer segment (OS) is a stack of disks surrounded by the plasma membrane, housing proteins related to phototransduction, as well as mitochondrial proteins involved in oxidative phosphorylation (OxPhos). This prompted us to compare the proteome of bovine OS disks and mitochondria to assess the significant top gene signatures of each sample. The two proteomes, obtained by LTQ-Orbitrap Velos mass spectrometry, were compared by statistical analyses.

A measurement of the mass of the boson is presented based on proton-proton collision data recorded in 2011 at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the LHC, and corresponding to of integrated luminosity. The selected data sample consists of candidates in the channel and candidates in the channel. The -boson mass is obtained from template fits to the reconstructed distributions of the charged lepton transverse momentum and of the boson transverse mass in the electron and muon decay channels, yielding where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second corresponds to the experimental systematic uncertainty, and the third to the physics-modelling systematic uncertainty.

The Tile Calorimeter is the hadron calorimeter covering the central region of the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. Approximately 10,000 photomultipliers collect light from scintillating tiles acting as the active material sandwiched between slabs of steel absorber. Unfortunately, the introduction of these natural H-catalysts in biotechnological applications is limited by their inhibition under oxidising (aerobic and anaerobic) conditions. With the aim of contributing to overcome this limitation, we studied the oxidative inactivation mechanism of [NiFe]-hydrogenases by performing Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations on a very large model of their active site in which all the amino acids forming the first and second coordination spheres of the NiFe cluster have been explicitly included.
