Article Synopsis
  • The study aims to assess how effective tranexamic acid is in decreasing blood loss and surgical time in nasal surgeries.
  • It included 16 randomized clinical trials with a total of 1,108 patients and found that tranexamic acid significantly reduced both intraoperative blood loss and the duration of surgery.
  • The findings indicate that tranexamic acid plays a critical role in these procedures, though the research is somewhat limited by the small number of available studies.

Purpose: The ellipsoid equation came in an attempt to facilitate the estimation of tumor volume, by measuring the height, width, and anteroposterior length of the lesion. The estimated tumor volume can sometimes be different between methods, thus, it is of extreme interest to evaluate if the methods are significantly different, as well as to discuss the main limitations of each one.

Methods: This is an observational, analytical, cross-sectional study.

Objective: The proximity of the spinal cord to compressive metastatic lesions limits radiosurgical dosing. Open surgery is used to create safe margins around the spinal cord prior to spinal stereotactic radiosurgery (SSRS) but carries the risk of potential surgical morbidity and interruption of systemic oncological treatment. Spinal laser interstitial thermotherapy (SLITT) in conjunction with SSRS provides local control with less morbidity and a shorter interval to resume systemic treatment.

Article Synopsis
  • Schizencephaly is a rare brain malformation linked to severe neurological issues, with limited research available on its effects and patient characteristics.
  • A literature review identified 156 studies involving 734 patients, revealing common issues such as microcephaly, seizures, and bilateral clefts, with significant correlations found between these factors and neurocognitive impairments.
  • Key findings suggest that bilateral clefts, motor impairments, microcephaly, and corpus callosum agenesis are major predictors of cognitive dysfunctions in schizencephaly patients, but the lack of large patient groups hampers broader comparisons.

Article Synopsis
  • Intrasphenoid septations need to be completely removed during expanded endonasal transsphenoidal surgery, especially if they are near the internal carotid artery (ICA) to avoid vascular injuries.
  • The study aims to assess how common these septations are in relation to the internal carotid artery protuberance (ICAp).
  • Analysis of CT scans from 421 patients revealed that over half had septations in the ICAp, with higher rates observed in patients with well-pneumatised sphenoid sinuses, highlighting the need for detailed pre-operative evaluations.
