Background: An accurate estimated fetal weight (EFW) calculated with traditional formulae in cases of abdominal wall defects (AWDs) can be challenging. As a result of reduced abdominal circumference, fetal weight may be underestimated, which could affect prenatal management. Siemer et al.

Pentalogy of Cantrell (PC) is a congenital anomaly characterized by a defect in the lower sternum, anterior diaphragm, and anterior abdominal wall; ectopia cordis; and congenital heart disease. It is a very rare congenital anomaly and the prenatal diagnosis is possible in the beginning of second trimester of pregnancy using the conventional ultrasonography. The prognosis is poor with high rates of perinatal mortality.

Synopsis of recent research by authors named "Bruno Rodrigues Toneto"

  • - Bruno Rodrigues Toneto's research primarily focuses on prenatal diagnostics and management of congenital anomalies, particularly abdominal wall defects and complex congenital conditions such as Pentalogy of Cantrell.
  • - One significant finding is that estimated fetal weight (EFW) calculations in cases of abdominal wall defects like gastroschisis and omphalocele can be inaccurate, potentially impacting prenatal care decisions.
  • - Toneto has emphasized the importance of early diagnosis using conventional ultrasonography to improve management strategies for rare congenital anomalies, which can lead to better outcomes despite the associated risks of perinatal mortality.
