Behavioral perception-action dissociations are widely used to test models of high-level vision, but debates concerning their interpretation have underestimated the role of multisensory mechanisms in such tests. Sensorimotor tasks engage multisensory processing in fundamentally different ways than perceptual tasks, and these differences can modulate dissociations in different ways based on task features. To test this idea, we compared perception and action using a well-understood size-contrast effect, the Uznadze illusion, and manipulated both unimodal and crossmodal stimulation as well as conditions that are known to favor or hinder multisensory integration.

Ferroic materials on the verge of forming ferroic glasses exhibit heightened functionality that is often attributed to competing long- and short-range correlations. However, the physics underlying these enhancements is not well understood. The NiCoMnIn Heusler alloy is on the edge of forming both spin and strain glasses and exhibits magnetic field-induced shape memory and large magnetocaloric effects, making it a candidate for multicaloric cooling applications.

The thermal distillation of crude oil mixtures is an energy-intensive process, accounting for nearly 1% of global energy consumption. Membrane-based separations are an appealing alternative or tandem process to distillation due to intrinsic energy efficiency advantages. We developed a family of spirocyclic polytriazoles from structurally diverse monomers for membrane applications.

Although it is known that the availability of visual feedback modulates grasping kinematics, it is unclear whether this extends to both the early and late stages of the movement. We tackled this issue by exposing participants to the Uznadze illusion (a medium stimulus appears larger or smaller after exposure to smaller or larger inducers). After seeing smaller or larger discs, participants grasped a medium disc with (closed-loop [CL]) or without (open-loop [OL]) visual feedback.

In Western countries, calcific aortic valve stenosis (CAS) is widely common, representing the third cause of death among cardiovascular diseases (CVD). The burden of CAS is high, with an increasing prevalence rate related to age. An efficient medical treatment, according to guidelines, lacks to prevent the development and to reduce the progression of CAS.

Membrane-based organic solvent separations are rapidly emerging as a promising class of technologies for enhancing the energy efficiency of existing separation and purification systems. Polymeric membranes have shown promise in the fractionation or splitting of complex mixtures of organic molecules such as crude oil. Determining the separation performance of a polymer membrane when challenged with a complex mixture has thus far occurred in an ad hoc manner, and methods to predict the performance based on mixture composition and polymer chemistry are unavailable.

The cranio-orbito-zygomatic (COZ) approach consists of an extension of the pterional approach characterized by the removal of the superolateral part of the orbital rim and zygoma. This key step tremendously increases the angular exposure to some deep targets and overall surgical freedom to the lesion. In this article we review the technical variations of the COZ approach, mainly focusing on the differential quantitative effects coming from the orbital osteotomy compared to the zygomatic one.
