Synopsis of recent research by authors named "Bruno M Muniz"

  • Bruno M Muniz conducted a prospective cohort study in São Paulo, Brazil, focusing on the diagnosis of disseminated histoplasmosis (DH) in hospitalized patients with advanced HIV disease, specifically those with low CD4+ counts.
  • The research highlights the challenges of limited diagnostic tools for DH, an endemic condition in Latin America and the Caribbean, particularly impacting patients with compromised immune systems.
  • Findings suggest that combining urine antigen tests with blood polymerase chain reaction (PCR) techniques can improve the accuracy of diagnosing disseminated histoplasmosis in this vulnerable patient population.
