Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated resting energy expenditure (REE) and body composition in preterm infants (gestational age < 32 weeks) with and without bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) at their term equivalent age.
  • About 26.2% of the 42 infants studied developed BPD, and those with BPD had significantly higher REE but similar body composition compared to their counterparts.
  • The findings suggest that even with increased energy expenditure, infants with BPD maintained normal body composition due to proper nutritional strategies.
