Unlabelled: Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM), associated with autoimmune destruction of pancreatic β cells, is observed in children and adolescents.

Objective: We investigated the potential association of the apolipoprotein M () polymorphisms rs707921, rs805264, rs805296, rs805297, and rs9404941 in childhood-onset T1DM ( = 144) and compared them to those in healthy (mostly Euro-Brazilian) children ( = 168).

Methods: This project was approved by the Ethics Committee of the Federal University of Parana (CAAE 24676613.

Personal protective equipment (PPE) should be adopted by all professional groups exposed to risks of contact with biological material. The aim is to analyze factors associated with the non-use of PPE by workers affected by occupational accidents with biological material. A quantitative, cross-sectional study was conducted to analyze notification forms of occupational accidents with biological material in municipalities in southern Brazil, from 2014 to 2019.

Introduction: Work accidents involving biological material are characterized as those whose exposure involves direct or indirect contact with human or animal blood and biological fluids, with a potential degree of contamination.

Objectives: To investigate the sociodemographic and occupational profile of workers, as well as data on occupational accidents with exposure to biological material in the municipalities that make up the Centro de Referência em Saúde do Trabalhador da Região dos Vales do estado do Rio Grande do Sul (Cerest-Vales/RS).

Methods: Documentary, retrospective, descriptive, quantitative research, where 1,260 Sistema de Informação de Agravos de Notificação (Sinan) notifications were analyzed, between 2014 and 2018.

Although osseointegration and clinical success of titanium (Ti)-implanted materials depend on neovascularization in the reactional peri-implant tissue, very little has been achieved considering the Ti-molecules release on the behavior of endothelial cells. To address this issue, we challenged endothelial cells (HUVECs) with Ti-enriched medium obtained from two types of commercial titanium surfaces [presenting or not dual-acid etching (DAE)] up to 72 h to allow molecular machinery analysis. Our data show that the Ti-enriched medium provokes significant stimulus of angiogenesis-related machinery in endothelial cells by upexpressing VEGFR1, VEGFR2, VEGF, eNOS, and iNOS genes, while the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway was also significantly enhanced.

Background: Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease and the leading form of diabetes among young white people. 1,5-Anhydroglucitol (1,5-AG), a nontraditional biomarker of postprandial glycemic control (after 1 - 3 days to 2 weeks), may be useful in T1D screening. We studied serum 1,5-AG concentration as a potential biomarker for T1D screening and diagnosis in adults and children.

Objective: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a metabolic disorder that shares pathophysiologic features with type 2 diabetes mellitus. The aim of this study was to investigate the association of the polymorphisms fat mass and obesity-associated (FTO) rs1421085, leptin receptor (LEPR) rs1137100, rs1137101, peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARg) rs1801282, and transcription factor 7-like 2 (TCF7L2) rs7901695 with GDM.

Subjects And Methods: 252 unrelated Euro-Brazilian pregnant women were classified into two groups according to the 2015 criteria of the American and Brazilian Diabetes Association: healthy pregnant women (n = 125) and pregnant women with GDM (n = 127), matched by age.
