Background: To determine the feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary efficacy of a 6-month tailored non-linear progressive physical activity intervention (PAI) for lymphoma patients undergoing chemotherapy.
Methods: Patients newly diagnosed with lymphoma (non-Hodgkin (NHL) or Hodgkin (HL)) were randomized into the PAI or healthy living intervention (HLI) control (2:1). Feasibility was assessed by examining accrual, adherence, and retention rates.
People with epilepsy (PWE) stand to benefit significantly from increasing their physical activity, but promotion of physical activity is difficult in any population; a challenge compounded by the unique barriers encountered by PWE, especially those with drug-resistant epilepsy (DRE). This study explores the feasibility of a remotely delivered, 12-week aerobic exercise program based on social cognitive theory principles in adults with DRE. This line of research is nested within the Multiphase Optimization Strategy (MOST), a framework that emphasizes iterative early pilot work (preparation phase research), followed by iterative optimization phase research.

Methods: This study is based on a prospective Wake Forest NCI Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP) multicenter cohort study (WF-97415) of women with stage I to III breast cancer and non-cancer controls. Analyses compared those: 1) receiving, or 2) not receiving anthracycline chemotherapy, 3) receiving aromatase inhibitors (AIs) without chemotherapy, with 4) a comparator group without a history of cancer.
Introduction: Despite its efficacy, conventional center-based cardiac rehabilitation has several limitations which have led to the emergence of home-based programs and intensive cardiac rehabilitation as alternative methods for overcoming these limitations. Alternative methods for primary prevention have been recommended for similar reasons. Lifestyle modification is considered key to success in both primary and secondary prevention.

There is an unmet need to define the prevalence and pathogenesis of early symptomatic HF, which may be undiagnosed and precedes HF hospitalization.
Methods: The MESA (Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis) Early HF study was conducted during MESA exam 6 to determine the prevalence of early HF and investigate the transition from risk factors to early HF in a diverse population-based cohort of older adults.

Methods: Adult patients at a single tertiary epilepsy center between January and April 2020 were surveyed. The survey included a validated physical activity questionnaire (Physical Activity Scale for the Elderly) plus 15 items aimed to address 1) perceptions and beliefs regarding physical activity, 2) barriers to routine physical activity, and 3) willingness and ability to participate in a physical activity intervention and 4) current physical abilities, activities, and preferences.
Importance: The pathophysiology of exercise intolerance in patients with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) remains incompletely understood. Multiple lines of evidence suggest that abnormal skeletal muscle metabolism is a key contributor, but the mechanisms underlying metabolic dysfunction remain unresolved.
Objective: To evaluate the associations of skeletal muscle mitochondrial function using respirometric analysis of biopsied muscle fiber bundles from patients with HFpEF with exercise performance.
Background: We have shown that combined caloric restriction (CR) and aerobic exercise training (AT) improve peak exercise O consumption (VO), and quality-of-life in older patients with obese heart failure with preserved ejection fraction. However, ≈35% of weight lost during CR+AT was skeletal muscle mass. We examined whether addition of resistance training (RT) to CR+AT would reduce skeletal muscle loss and further improve outcomes.

The intestinal L cell secretes a diversity of biologically active hormones, most notably the glucagon-like peptides, GLP-1 and GLP-2. The highly successful introduction of GLP-1-based drugs into the clinic for the treatment of patients with type 2 diabetes and obesity, and of a GLP-2 analog for patients with short bowel syndrome, has led to the suggestion that stimulation of the endogenous secretion of these peptides may serve as a novel therapeutic approach in these conditions. Situated in the intestinal epithelium, the L cell demonstrates complex relationships with not only circulating, paracrine, and neural regulators, but also ingested nutrients and other factors in the lumen, most notably the microbiota.
