Background: Iron is an essential element for critical biological functions, with iron deficiency negatively affecting growth and brain development and iron excess associated with adverse effects. The goal of this review is to provide a comprehensive assessment of up-to-date evidence on iron absorption measured isotopically in children, preterm infants, and full-term infants, up to 24 months of age.
Methods: Search databases included Pubmed, Cochrane, Web of Science, and Scopus from a date range of 1 January 1953 to 22 July 2024.

Since the implementation of the HITECH Act 2009, the integration of the electronic health record (EHR) with other technology platforms has increased the complexity and necessity of technology downtimes, and the continuity of patient care has become increasingly dependent on an intact EHR. To maintain business continuity and safe patient care during planned or unplanned EHR downtime, it is imperative that organisations have solid downtime and disaster recovery plans. Successful downtime planning will include documenting, with annual reviews, the process for patient care during downtime, as well as an exercise programme that touches all aspects of the downtime process.

Study Design: Data of patients undergoing D2-OG or RG for gastric cancer were retrieved from the international IMIGASTRIC prospective database and compared.
Purpose: To develop an evidence-based clinical practice guideline to assist in clinical decision making for patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
Methods: ASCO convened an Expert Panel to conduct a systematic review of published phase III randomized controlled trials (2007-2020) on systemic therapy for advanced HCC and provide recommended care options for this patient population.
Results: Nine phase III randomized controlled trials met the inclusion criteria.
Methylmercury (MeHg) produced by anaerobic bacteria in lakes and reservoirs, poses a threat to ecosystem and human health due to its ability to bioaccumulate in aquatic food webs. This study used 48-hr microcosm incubations of profundal sediment and bottom water from a sulfate-rich, hypereutrophic reservoir to assess seasonal patterns of MeHg cycling under various treatments. Treatments included addition of air, Hg(II), organic carbon, and microbial inhibitors.

MTTs are primarily found in the head, neck, extremities and trunk, but rare cases of MTT within the buttock, the mediastinum and the retroperitoneum have also been documented. We present the case of a 47-year-old male patient who initially presented with right flank pain and hematuria in July 2019, who was found to have a large pelvic mass below peritoneal reflection.

Case Presentation: SCC/MLA staged a dedicated writing retreat to coincide with the organization's 2012, 2013, and 2014 annual meetings. Each cohort met over two days to write and to workshop their peers' manuscripts.
Aim: To investigate the role of minimally invasive surgery for gastric cancer and determine surgical, clinical, and oncological outcomes.
Methods: This is a propensity score-matched case-control study, comparing three treatment arms: robotic gastrectomy (RG), laparoscopic gastrectomy (LG), open gastrectomy (OG). Data collection started after sharing a specific study protocol.
Background: Chemotherapy plays a role in the treatment of endometrioid endometrial cancer (EEC); however, tumor grade may affect response. Our objective was to evaluate associations between tumor grade and in vitro chemoresponse.
Methods: We conducted an analysis of primary tumor samples from women with EEC undergoing in vitro chemoresponse testing.
Use of adjuvant chemotherapy remains a complex decision in the treatment of early stage non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), with risk of recurrence being the primary indicator (i.e. adjuvant chemotherapy is considered for patients at high risk of recurrence but may not be beneficial for patients at low risk).

Better understanding on the pathologic mechanisms and pathways is required for effective treatment of these malignancies. Recently, human epididymis protein 4 (HE4 or WFDC2), a secretory glycoprotein, was found to be overexpressed in pancreatic and endometrial cancers.

Minimally invasive surgery has been progressively developed, first with the advent of laparoscopy and recently with the spread of robotic surgery, but a number of issues are currently being debated, including the limitations in performing an effective extended lymph node dissection, the real advantages of robotic systems, the role of laparoscopy for Advanced Gastric Cancer, the reproducibility of a total intracorporeal technique and the oncological results achievable during long-term follow-up.
Methods And Analysis: A multi-institutional international database will be established to evaluate the role of robotic, laparoscopic and open approaches in gastric cancer, comprising of information regarding surgical, clinical and oncological features.
Syncytin-1 is a member of human endogenous retroviral W gene family (HERVW1). Known to be expressed in human placental trophoblast, syncytin-1 protein mediates the fusion of cytotrophoblasts for the formation of syncytiotrophoblasts, the terminally differentiated form of trophoblast lineage. In addition, in vitro studies indicate that syncytin-1 possessed nonfusogenic functions such as those for immune suppression, cell cycle regulation and anti-apoptotic activities.

To achieve operational efficiencies, this study was designed to evaluate the assay's performance in RNA-stabilized tissue as an alternative to the fresh-frozen tissue format originally used to develop the assay. The percent concordance between matched tissue formats was 84% (95% Wilson CI, 70%-92%), a level of agreement comparable to the inherent reproducibility of the assay observed within biological replicates of fresh-frozen tissue.

Method: Searches of MEDLINE, Embase and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials were performed to identify articles published until April 2014 which reported outcomes of surgical treatment for gastric cancer and that used minimally invasive surgical technology.
Human epididymis protein 4 (HE4) is a recognized biomarker in ovarian and endometrial cancer and over-expressed in pancreatic adenocarcinoma. The diagnostic value of HE4 in pancreatic adenocarcinoma remains unknown. Here we elucidate mRNA, protein and serum level of HE4 in pancreatic adenocarcinoma.

The current study investigates the cost effectiveness of using the assay at the time of ovarian cancer recurrence from the payer's perspective.
Methods: Using a Markov state transition model, patient characteristics and survival data from the recent clinical study, the cumulative costs over the study horizon (71 months) for both the baseline (no assay) and intervention (assay consistent, hypothetical) cohorts were evaluated.
The Association of College and Research Libraries is developing a new framework of information literacy concepts that will revise and replace the previously adopted standards. This framework consists of six threshold concepts that are more flexible than the original standards, and that work to identify both the function and the feelings behind information literacy education practices. This column outlines the new tentative framework with an eye toward its implications for health sciences libraries, and suggests ways the medical library community might work with this new document.

Methods: From 2000 to 2013, 286 patients underwent gastrectomy and 104 patients had pathological confirmation of EGC.
Background: Recently, a prospective study reported improved clinical outcomes for recurrent ovarian cancer patients treated with chemotherapies indicated to be sensitive by a chemoresponse assay, compared with those patients treated with non-sensitive therapies, thereby demonstrating the assay's prognostic properties. Due to cross-drug response over different treatments and possible association of in vitro chemosensitivity of a tumour with its inherent biology, further analysis is required to ascertain whether the assay performs as a predictive marker as well.
Methods: Women with persistent or recurrent epithelial ovarian cancer (n=262) were empirically treated with one of 15 therapies, blinded to assay results.
