Neurologic status, aneurysm morphology, location, ruptured/unruptured status, availability of equipment, and patient preference are among the factors influencing the choice of treatment modality. Ideally, a 1-stage procedure is recommended whenever possible.

Establishing the First Neurosurgical Skill Laboratory in West Africa: An Initiative for an Affordable Regional Education Center.

Background: The benefits of a neurosurgical skill laboratory (NSL) are unquestionable. Despite the increasing number of sub-Saharan African neurosurgeons, few cadaveric laboratories are available for neurosurgical education. The first of its kind in West Africa, a NSL opened in 2019 in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire to promote neurosurgeons' education and technical skills.

The authorization of several high-efficacy vaccines for use against the novel SARS-CoV2 virus signals a transition in the global COVID-19 response. Vaccine acceptance is critical for pandemic control and has a variety of context- specific drivers that operate at the individual, group, and sociopolitical levels. Social and behavior change interventions can influence individual knowledge, attitudes, and intentions as well as community norms to facilitate widespread vaccine uptake.

Real-Time Tracking of COVID-19 Rumors Using Community-Based Methods in Côte d'Ivoire.

Global misinformation and information overload have characterized the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. Rumors are unverified pieces of information spreading online or person-to-person that reduce trust in health authorities and create barriers to protective practices. Risk communication and community engagement can increase transparency, build trust, and stop the spread of rumors.

[Pneumothorax catamenial: results of 18 cases operas].

This study aims to propose a therapeutic approach for catamenial pneumothorax based on outcomes reported in 18 cases. We conducted a retrospective study of 18 female elderly patients with an average age of 32.2 years who had undergone surgery for right (16 cases) and bilateral catamenial pneumothorax (2 cases) from January 1994 to December 2016.

Health expenditure and growth dynamics in the SADC region: evidence from non-stationary panel data with cross section dependence and unobserved heterogeneity.

This paper investigates the long run relationship between health care expenditure and economic growth, using panel data for 14 Southern African Development Community (SADC) member countries over the period 1995-2012. The non-stationarity and cointegration properties between health expenditure per capita and GDP per capita were examined, controlling for cross section dependence and heterogeneity between countries. Our results suggest that health expenditure and GDP per capita are non-stationary and cointegrated.

Background: Promising results have been reported for a urine circulating cathodic antigen (CCA) test for the diagnosis of Schistosoma mansoni. We assessed the accuracy of a commercially available CCA cassette test (designated CCA-A) and an experimental formulation (CCA-B) for S. mansoni diagnosis.

A case of a completely embedded ring in the finger of a growing child is presented. Because the ring was completely covered with epithelium or eschar, the diagnosis was masked until radiographs were obtained. Although bony erosion was present, neither digital sensation nor circulation was compromised.

Mohs' micrographic surgery and prompt reconstruction for basal cell carcinoma: report of 62 cases using the combined method.

Aggressive, recurrent, and difficult to manage skin cancers may require complex solutions. In this review of 62 skin cancers, we demonstrate a novel approach to the management of these tumors. Mohs' micrographic surgery was used to remove the tumor, and was followed by immediate or delayed plastic surgical repair.

The scalp as a donor site: revisited.

The scalp cannot be used as skin graft donor site with impunity. A review of 2,620 charts identified 194 pediatric patients whose scalps served as donor sites for split-thickness skin grafts for the treatment of acute burns. The overall incidence of alopecia was 32%.

Inventory of potential reconstructive needs in the patient with burns.

The rehabilitation and reconstruction of patients who survive large burns is an arduous task. To facilitate it we have devised an inventory form to accurately record the somatic abnormalities caused by burns and also the severity and location of burns. This form was used in the assessment of 25 pediatric patients with massive burns.
