Tracking national neonatal transport activity and metrics using the UK Neonatal Transport Group dataset 2012-2021: a narrative review.

There are no internationally agreed descriptors for categories of neonatal transports which facilitate comparisons between settings. To continually review and enhance neonatal transport care we need robust categories to develop benchmarks. This review aimed to report on the development and application of key measures across a national neonatal transport service.

Prostatic irradiation-induced sexual dysfunction: A review and multidisciplinary guide to management in the radical radiotherapy era (Part II on Urological Management).

Prostate cancer is the most common malignancy in men and the second leading cause of cancer-related death in men. Radiotherapy is a curative option that is administered via external beam radiation, brachytherapy, or in combination. Sexual dysfunction is a common toxicity following radiotherapy, similar to men undergoing radical prostatectomy, but the etiology is different.

An outbreak of meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus colonization in a neonatal intensive care unit: use of a case-control study to investigate and control it and lessons learnt.

Aim: To describe the investigation and management of a meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) outbreak on a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and the lessons learnt.

Methods: This was an outbreak report and case-control study conducted in a 40-cot NICU in a tertiary referral hospital and included all infants colonized/infected with gentamicin-resistant MRSA.

Intervention: Standard infection-control measures including segregation of infants, barrier precautions, enhanced cleaning, assessment of staff practice including hand hygiene, and increased MRSA screening of infants were implemented.

Epithelial-mesenchymal transition in prostatic disease.

A fully differentiated epithelium of the normal prostate gland allows epithelial cells to de-differentiate into mesenchymal-like derivatives via the process of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and redifferentiate via the reverse process, mesenchymal-epithelial transition. This review discusses the phenotypic changes associated with EMT and its programming in the development of the two growth disorders of the aging prostate gland, benign prostatic hyperplasia and prostate adenocarcinoma. Considering the cellular heterogeneity that characterizes both conditions, identifying the transcriptional programming of the phenotypic framework defining EMT and its reverse process mesenchymal-epithelial transition in their pathological landscape will enable novel platforms for biomarker-driven therapeutics and their implementation in benign prostatic hyperplasia and prostate cancer.

Active versus passive cooling during neonatal transport.

Background And Objective: Therapeutic hypothermia is now the standard of care for hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy. Treatment should be started early, and it is often necessary to transfer the infant to a regional NICU for ongoing care. There are no large studies reporting outcomes from infants cooled passively compared with active (servo-controlled) cooling during transfer.

Pain score assessment in babies undergoing laser treatment for retinopathy of prematurity under sub-tenon anaesthesia.

Purpose: To assess the tolerability and outcomes of laser treatment for retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) under sub-tenon anaesthetic with oral or rectal sedation using a reliable, multidimensional, and internationally accepted tool for assessment of neonatal pain.

Methods: Sixty-two babies have had ROP laser treatment in our neonatal unit in the 7-year interval between 1 March 2005 and 28 February 2012; 44% (27 of the 62) were performed using sub-tenon anaesthesia. Pain scores were routinely assessed using the Neonatal Pain Agitation and Sedation Scale (N-PASS) every 10 min during laser treatment.

Docetaxel in the treatment of children with refractory or relapsed hepatoblastoma.

We report on the use of single-agent docetaxel (100 mg/m(2) in children >10 kg, 3.3 mg/kg in children <10 kg), given as a 1-hour infusion at 21-day intervals in 5 children with relapsed or refractory hepatoblastoma. One patient achieved complete remission of pulmonary metastases after 2 courses of docetaxel and remains well 10 years later, after completion of 13 courses of docetaxel and whole-lung radiotherapy.

Two-year outcomes from very low birthweight infants in a geographically defined population across 10 years, 1993-2002: comparing 1993-1997 with 1998-2002.

Aim: To determine the prevalence and nature of disability at 2 years of age in infants born from 1993 to 2002 with a birth weight of <1500 g.

Methods: A prospective cohort analysis of all eight neonatal units in East Anglia, UK using a single database. Local paediatricians assessed children at 2 years of age using the Health Status Questionnaire.

Review of resuscitation training amongst consultants and middle grade paediatricians.

Aims: To review the resuscitation training of senior and middle grade paediatricians.

Methods: A questionnaire was sent to all paediatricians above the level of senior house officer in the Eastern Region of the UK to determine: (1) completion of basic life support (BLS) training in the previous year; (2) previous attendance at a paediatric/neonatal advanced life support course; (3) resuscitation provider accreditation; (4) instructor status.

Results: Replies were received from 153 out of 160 paediatricians.
