Impact of Resident and Attending Surgeon Training Level on Free Tissue Transfer Ischemia Time and Complications.

Background:  Microsurgical free tissue transfer has become an essential method for reconstruction of complex surgical defects, making the level of training an important factor to consider. There is little published regarding the impact of training level on microsurgical outcomes. This study investigates microsurgical free tissue transfer ischemia time and postoperative complications based on resident and attending surgeon experience level.

Safety of Coupled Arterial Anastomosis in Autologous Breast Reconstruction.

Background:  This study compares the outcomes of coupled versus hand-sewn arterial anastomosis in microvascular breast reconstruction.

Methods:  Retrospective chart review of breast reconstruction free flaps performed between 2013 and 2018 was conducted. Primary end points included flap loss, intraoperative arterial anastomosis revision, and operating room takeback.

Comparison of Saline Expanders and Air Expanders for Breast Reconstruction.

Introduction: Postmastectomy breast reconstruction with saline tissue expanders requires frequent saline injections. Air expanders contain an air canister and patient-operated remote to control expansion. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of air expanders, inclusive of cost.
