Introduction/aims: Glucocorticoid (GC)-related adverse reactions and risks are commonly seen during the treatment of immune-mediated and inflammatory neuromuscular disorders. There is wide variation in the management of associated complications. The aim of this study is to develop international consensus guidance on the management of GC-related complications in neuromuscular disorders.

Purpose: Paclitaxel, ifosfamide, and cisplatin (TIP) is an established salvage regimen for germ cell tumors (GCT) on the basis of a phase II trial, but efficacy on a large patient cohort including patients with unfavorable risk features and long-term outcomes has not been reported. Herein, we report updated treatment efficacy and long-term follow-up with TIP.

Preliminary Study on Effects of Neck Exoskeleton Structural Design in Patients With Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.

Neck muscle weakness due to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) can result in dropped head syndrome, adversely impacting the quality of life of those affected. Static neck collars are currently prescribed to hold the head in a fixed upright position. However, these braces are uncomfortable and do not allow any voluntary head-neck movements.

Spurred by patient interest, ALSUntangled herein examines the potential of the Portable Neuromodulation Stimulator (PoNS™) in treating amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). The PoNS™ device, FDA-approved for the treatment of gait deficits in adult patients with multiple sclerosis, utilizes translingual neurostimulation to stimulate trigeminal and facial nerves via the tongue, aiming to induce neuroplastic changes. While there are early, promising data for PoNS treatment to improve gait and balance in multiple sclerosis, stroke, and traumatic brain injury, no pre-clinical or clinical studies have been performed in ALS.

Guillain-Barré syndrome is a monophasic illness, and there is new information about precipitating factors, changes in nerve conduction studies over time, potential biomarkers, optimal treatment, and features in uncommon patient populations.

An Australian Sugary-sweetened Beverage Levy: Why, What and How?

Sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) are associated with overweight/obesity and linked to chronic diseases. A levy or tax on SSBs has been introduced in many jurisdictions globally as a way to lower sugar consumption and/or reformulate lower sugar levels in order to address increasing rates of overweight and obesity. In this article we describe the various approaches to SSB taxation in these jurisdictions.

E-cigarettes on Instagram: Exploring vape content via an Australian vaping influencer.

Introduction: Mounting evidence suggests that electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) are extensively promoted and marketed using social media, including through user-generated content and social media influencers. This study explores how e-cigarettes are being promoted on Instagram, using a case-study approach, and the extent to which Meta's Restricted Goods and Services Policy (Meta's policy) is being applied and enforced.

Methods: We identified the accounts followed by an Australian Instagram influencer who primarily posts e-cigarette-related content.

Lion's Mane ( has historically been used as traditional medicine in Asia and Europe for its potential benefits in fighting infection and cancer. It has gained interest in the neurodegenerative disease field because of its mechanisms of action; these include anti-inflammation, neuroprotection, and promoting neurite growth demonstrated in various cell and animal models. A very small, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial in patients with mild cognitive impairment showed a temporary improvement in cognitive function; this finding has yet to be replicated.

Aim: Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and disordered eating (DE) are both highly prevalent among adolescents, but their relationship is understudied. This study examines their possible association in a nationally representative sample of adolescents.

Methods: Participants in the Israeli Youth Health and Nutrition Survey (2015-2016), a cross-sectional, school-based study, completed self-administered questionnaires, including the SCOFF questionnaire, and underwent anthropometric measurements.

Ototoxicity associated with high-dose carboplatin for patients with previously treated germ cell tumors.

Background: High-dose carboplatin is an essential part of curative high-dose chemotherapy (HDCT) for patients with previously treated germ cell tumors (GCTs). Although hearing loss (HL) is a known side effect of HDCT, data on its severity and characteristics are limited.

Methods: Eligible patients received HDCT for GCTs from 1993 to 2017 and had audiograms before and after HDCT.

Quantitative electrodiagnosis of the motor unit.

Electromyography (EMG) focuses on assessment of the motor unit (MU), and a given muscle has several hundred MUs, each innervating hundreds of muscle fibers. Assessment is limited by the recording radius of electrodes, 1-2 fibers with single-fiber electrodes and 7-15 fibers with concentric or monopolar electrodes. Routine qualitative EMG studies rely on observing MUs in free-run mode and qualitatively estimating common metrics.

The study aimed to investigate the associations between the lifetime prevalence of menopausal symptoms and health-related characteristics among Israeli postmenopausal women aged 55-75 years. Additionally, this study aimed to estimate the use of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and women's attitudes toward this treatment.

This paper aims to understand how e-cigarettes are being promoted on TikTok and provide insights into the effectiveness of current TikTok policies.

In April 2020 American President Donald Trump publicly stated that consuming disinfectant could cure COVID-19. This apparently shocking statement was not so shocking to many: some people believe that consuming Miracle Mineral Solution (MMS), a name for chlorine dioxide, an industrial bleach, can cure many illnesses. This article is a case note about Stanley v Finnegan, 447 F Supp 3d 771, 777 (WD Ark, 2020), in which parents sued their local county and sheriff in Arkansas for taking their children away after they encouraged their children to consume MMS.
