Background: Considering the paucity of data, we aimed to describe nationwide time trends in antithrombotic therapy during pregnancy and risks of maternal and perinatal outcomes in the Netherlands.
Methods: In this nationwide cohort study, all female individuals aged 16-45 years with delivery records in the Dutch perinatal registry between Jan 1, 2013, and Dec 31, 2019, and their infants, were included. Individually linked data from Statistics Netherlands on outpatient medication prescriptions, in-hospital diagnoses, and mortality were used to evaluate time trends in antithrombotic therapy during pregnancy, and risks of maternal and perinatal outcomes (including thromboembolism, bleeding, preeclampsia and eclampsia, and low birthweight).
Objective: To compare stillbirth rates and risks for small for gestational age (SGA), large for gestational age (LGA) and appropriate for gestational age (AGA) pregnancies at 24-44 completed weeks of gestation using a birth-based and fetuses-at-risk approachs.
Design: Population-based, multi-country study.
Setting: National data systems in 15 high- and middle-income countries.
Background: Despite concerns about worsening pregnancy outcomes resulting from healthcare restrictions, economic difficulties and increased stress during the COVID-19 pandemic, preterm birth (PTB) rates declined in some countries in 2020, while stillbirth rates appeared stable. Like other shocks, the pandemic may have exacerbated existing socioeconomic disparities in pregnancy, but this remains to be established. Our objective was to investigate changes in PTB and stillbirth by socioeconomic status (SES) in European countries.

Now that this guideline has been implemented, an accurate description of neurodevelopmental outcome at school age is needed.
Design: Population-based cohort study.
Objective: To examine the contribution of preterm birth and size-for-gestational age in stillbirths using six 'newborn types'.
Design: Population-based multi-country analyses.
Setting: Births collected through routine data systems in 13 countries.
Objective: To investigate trends in low Apgar scores in (near) term singletons using the Dutch Perinatal Registry.
Methods: In a cohort of 1,583,188 singletons liveborn ≥35 weeks of gestation in the period 2010-2019, we studied trends in low 5-min Apgar scores (<7 and <4) using Cochrane Armitage trend tests.
Results: The proportion of infants with low Apgar scores <7 and <4 increased significantly between 2010-2019 (1.
Objective: To compare neonatal mortality associated with six novel vulnerable newborn types in 125.5 million live births across 15 countries, 2000-2020.
Design: Population-based, multi-country study.
Objective: To examine the prevalence of novel newborn types among 165 million live births in 23 countries from 2000 to 2021.
Design: Population-based, multi-country analysis.
Setting: National data systems in 23 middle- and high-income countries.
Background: Maternal tetanus-diphtheria-and-acellular-pertussis (Tdap) vaccination is offered to all pregnant women during their second trimester in the Netherlands since December 2019. We assessed second trimester Tdap vaccination reactogenicity and compared with third trimester data from a similar study. For safety assessment, adverse pregnancy outcomes were compared with national data from 2018, before Tdap vaccine-introduction.

The patient's bone marrow shows lagging neutrophil development with subtle left shift and unresponsiveness to CSF3 in in vitro colony assays. This patient illustrates that the di-proline hinge motif in the extracellular cytokine receptor homology domain of CSF3R is critical for adequate neutrophil production, but dispensable for in vivo terminal neutrophil maturation.

Background: Stillbirth is a major public health problem, but measurement remains a challenge even in high-income countries. We compared routine stillbirth statistics in Europe reported by Eurostat with data from the Euro-Peristat research network.
Methods: We used data on stillbirths in 2015 from both sources for 31 European countries.
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) has been recognized as a highly prevalent risk factor for both the severity of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and COVID-19 associated adverse outcomes. In this multicenter observational cohort study, we aim to determine mortality and readmission rates of patients hospitalized for COVID-19 across varying CKD stages. We performed a multicenter cohort study among COVID-19 patients included in the Dutch COVIDPredict cohort.

Objective: In the Netherlands, the threshold for offering active treatment for spontaneous birth was lowered from 25 to 24 weeks' gestation in 2010. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of guideline implementation on survival and causes and timing of death in the years following implementation.
Design: National cohort study, using data from the Netherlands Perinatal Registry.
Purpose: Observational population-based research is a very suitable non-invasive method for studies in the vulnerable populations of pregnant women and children. Therefore, the PHARMO Perinatal Research Network (PPRN) was set up as a resource for life course perinatal and paediatric research by linking population-based data from existing registrations.
Participants: From 1999 to 2017, the PPRN captures approximately 542 900 pregnancies of 387 100 mothers ('Pregnancy Cohort').
Creating accurate habitat suitability and distribution models (HSDMs) for soil microbiota is far more challenging than for aboveground organism groups. In this perspective paper, we propose a conceptual framework that addresses several of the critical issues holding back further applications. Most importantly, we tackle the mismatch between the broadscale, long-term averages of environmental variables traditionally used, and the environment as experienced by soil microbiota themselves.

Design: Descriptive population-wide study.
Method: Data from 32 European countries and regions within the Euro-Peristat registration area were analysed.
Background: The time interval between CRT and surgery in rectal cancer patients is still the subject of debate. The aim of this study was to first evaluate the nationwide use of restaging magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and its impact on timing of surgery, and, second, to evaluate the impact of timing of surgery after chemoradiotherapy (CRT) on short- and long-term outcomes.
Methods: Patients were selected from a collaborative rectal cancer research project including 71 Dutch centres, and were subdivided into two groups according to time interval from the start of preoperative CRT to surgery (< 14 and ≥ 14 weeks).
Severe congenital neutropenia (SCN) is a BM failure syndrome with a high risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The underlying genetic changes involved in SCN evolution to AML are largely unknown. We obtained serial hematopoietic samples from an SCN patient who developed AML 17 years after the initiation of G-CSF treatment.

We examined proliferation and maturation of MDS marrow cells in response to Epo in more detail. Epo-dependent DNA synthesis as well as induction of GATA-1 binding activity in marrow cells from 15 MDS cases were severely reduced as compared with normal bone marrow (NBM).

The growth factor kit ligand (KL) may restore the in vitro erythroid colony-forming response to EPO in a subset of patients. The inability of MDS erythroid progenitors to react properly to EPO and/or KL has not been resolved.

Blast cell colony formation from seven normal bone marrow (NBM) samples was studied in parallel. The effects of normal donor-derived marrow were examined in comparison.

Supplementation of TNF to culture resulted in a dose-dependent suppression of granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) induced granulocytic colony formation and also erythropoietin (Epo) induced erythroid burst formation. However, the number of erythroid bursts, stimulated by interleukin-3 (IL-3) plus Epo, increased when TNF was added at comparable concentrations.
