Background: Collagen type X (ColXα1, encoded by ) is expressed specifically in the cartilage-to-bone transition, in bone marrow cells, and in osteoarthritic (OA) cartilage. We have previously shown that ColXα1 is expressed in breast tumor stroma, correlates with tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes, and predicts poor adjuvant therapy outcomes in ER/HER2 breast cancer. However, the underlying molecular mechanisms for these effects are unknown.

Introduction: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play important roles in gene expression regulation and Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathogenesis.

Methods: We investigated the association between baseline plasma miRNAs and central AD biomarkers from the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI; N = 803): amyloid, tau, and neurodegeneration (A/T/N). Differentially expressed miRNAs and their targets were identified, followed by pathway enrichment analysis.

  • The study aimed to evaluate whether a new protocol for genetic counseling referrals (GCRs) increased the frequency of genetic testing (GT) for Lynch Syndrome (LS) in patients with abnormal mismatch repair (MMR) immunohistochemistry (IHC) results in endometrial cancer.
  • Researchers compared GCRs and GT rates before and after the protocol's implementation, finding a significant increase in GCRs from 68.8% to 96.7%, but no statistically significant difference in GT rates.
  • Although the protocol improved GCRs, about 15% of patients who qualified for GT still did not receive it, suggesting a need for further measures like universal germline testing in endometrial cancer cases

A growing body of evidence supports the presence of a population of cells in glioblastoma (GBM) with a stem cell-like phenotype which shares certain biological markers with adult neural stem cells, including expression of SOX2, CD133 (PROM1), and NES (nestin). This study was designed to determine the relationship between the expression of these stem cell markers and the clinical outcome in GBM patients. We quantified the intensity of expression of the proteins CD133 and SOX2 by immunohistochemistry (IHC) in a cohort of 86 patients with IDH-wildtype GBM, and evaluated patient outcomes using Kaplan-Meier and Cox proportional hazards analysis.

Background: Glioblastoma (GBM) is an aggressive, age-associated malignant glioma that contains populations of cancer stem cells. These glioma stem cells (GSCs) evade therapeutic interventions and repopulate tumors due to their existence in a slowly cycling quiescent state. Although aging is well known to increase cancer initiation, the extent to which the mechanisms supporting GSC tumorigenicity are related to physiological aging remains unknown.

Background: There is little consensus regarding effective digital health interventions for diverse populations, which is due in part to the difficulty of quantifying the impact of various media and content and the lack of consensus on evaluating dosage and outcomes. In particular, digital smoking behavior change intervention is an area where consistency of measurement has been a challenge because of emerging products and rapid policy changes. This study reviewed the contents and outcomes of digital smoking interventions and the consistency of reporting to inform future research.

Resilience and empowerment are both strengths-based processes, which, while sharing commonalities, describe different goals, actions, and outcomes-one aimed at status quo; the other at status quake. The Transconceptual Model of Empowerment and Resilience (TMER; Brodsky & Cattaneo, 2013) outlines these similarities and differences in order to uncover the circumstances that lead to one or the other process. This study utilized TMER to explore resilience and empowerment in qualitative interviews of 99 first- and second-generation Latinx, Moroccan, and Albanian immigrants in the U.

Direct oral anticoagulants have emerged as the drugs that have changed the management of the antithrombotic treatment in the last 15 years. Their advantages, like a more friendly way of anticoagulation and their lower risk of bleeding, especially in the brain, have positioned these new anticoagulants as the first drug of choice in the two most frequent indications of anticoagulation, atrial fibrillation, and the venous thromboembolic disease. However, not all the patients can receive these agents, not all the direct oral anticoagulants have the same characteristics, and most importantly, not all the diseases with an indication of an anticoagulant drug can be treated with them.
