Objectives: To examine the rate of skin color reporting in randomized controlled trials (RCTs) involving melanoma in the top ten highest dermatology journals by impact factor over the past four decades.

Methods: A systematic review of RCTs involving melanoma within the top ten dermatology journals, as determined by impact factor, was conducted from inception to July 10th, 2023. Studies were included if they reviewed the diagnosis and/or treatment of melanoma, were RCTs, directly involved patients and were written in English.

This commentary underscores the urgent issue of limited access to dermatologic care in rural areas, leading to adverse health outcomes. With only 10% of dermatologists practicing in rural America, the "rural mortality penalty" contributes to escalating morbidity and mortality. Disparities in dermatologist distribution, particularly in minority-majority counties with lower incomes, worsen health inequities.

Article Synopsis
  • Targetoid hemosiderotic hemangioma (THH) is a rare vascular lesion that mainly affects adults, usually developing after trauma, with no significant gender preference.
  • The review analyzes THH's characteristics, differentiating it from similar conditions like Kaposi's sarcoma and retiform hemangioendothelioma.
  • Clinically, THH appears as painless lesions with a distinctive target-like look; histologically, it shows specific vascular features and can be identified with immunohistochemical markers.

Mucormycosis (zygomycosis) is a severe and often fatal mycotic infection affecting primarily immunocompromised individuals. A 61-year-old female with type 2 diabetes mellitus and end-stage renal disease developed septic shock in association with mucormycosis. Despite antifungal treatment with liposomal amphotericin B, the patient's condition rapidly deteriorated, leading to death within 48 hours.

Strong epigenetic pan-cancer biomarkers are required to meet several current, urgent clinical needs and to further improve the present chemotherapeutic standard. We have concentrated on the investigation of epigenetic alteration of the gene, which is frequently epigenetically dysregulated in a number of cancers in specific developmental stages. Distinct DNA methylation profiles were identified in our data on early urothelial cancer.

Objectives: To determine the rate skin color is reported in randomized controlled trials (RCTs) involving basal cell carcinoma (BCC) identification and treatment in the top ten dermatology journals.

Methods: A systematic review was conducted of RCTs involving BCC among the top ten dermatology journals, determined by impact factor, from inception to July 11th, 2023. Studies were included if they reviewed the prevention, detection, and treatment of BCC, directly involved patients, and were classified as RCTs.

Background: Gastroenteritis is a common cause of morbidity and mortality globally. Its cause encompasses a spectrum of agents, including viruses, bacteria, parasites, toxins, and drugs. Viruses account for a considerable portion of gastroenteritis cases across all age groups, typically presenting with symptoms like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration, anorexia, and weight loss.

Article Synopsis
  • Microscopes have played a crucial role in the evolution of clinical medicine, acting as a vital link between patient care and foundational scientific understanding.
  • In clinical dermatology, for example, they are essential for diagnosing conditions by correlating clinical observations with pathologic findings.
  • Despite the emergence of digital technologies, traditional light microscopes remain significant, not only as scientific tools but also as remarkable pieces of art that symbolize the history and culture of medicine.

Article Synopsis
  • * A review of various safety data sources found that the incidence of GI-related adverse reactions from topical clindamycin is extremely low, only 0.000045%.
  • * In clinical trials, only 1.4% of participants experienced gastrointestinal AEs, suggesting that concerns about colitis are minimal, although there are limitations in the data's accuracy and generalizability.

The objectives are to determine the frequency that skin color is reported in randomized controlled trials (RCTs) involving squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) detection and treatment in leading dermatology journals. A systematic review of RCTs involving SCC was conducted among the top ten most impactful dermatology journals from inception to July 10th, 2023. Studies were included if they reviewed the treatment, prevention, or detection of SCC, involved patients directly and were classified as traditional RCTs.

Melanoma frequently harbors genetic alterations in key molecules leading to the aberrant activation of PI3K and its downstream pathways. Although the role of PI3K/AKT/mTOR in melanoma progression and drug resistance is well documented, targeting the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway showed less efficiency in clinical trials than might have been expected, since the suppression of the PI3K/mTOR signaling pathway-induced feedback loops is mostly associated with the activation of compensatory pathways such as MAPK/MEK/ERK. Consequently, the development of intrinsic and acquired resistance can occur.

Melanoma is the third most common type of skin cancer, characterized by its heterogeneity and propensity to metastasize to distant organs. Melanoma is a heterogeneous tumor, composed of genetically divergent subpopulations, including a small fraction of melanoma-initiating cancer stem-like cells (CSCs) and many non-cancer stem cells (non-CSCs). CSCs are characterized by their unique surface proteins associated with aberrant signaling pathways with a causal or consequential relationship with tumor progression, drug resistance, and recurrence.

This biographical article takes the reader on the unlikely journey of a small-town dermatologist, Robert T. Brodell MD, from private practice to academics. It is designed to demonstrate that the road less traveled may be of interest to many other "regular" dermatologists in private practice… particularly those who enjoy teaching.

Intervention research and development for youth in the juvenile legal system (JLS) has often focused on recidivism as the primary outcome of interest. Although recidivism is an important outcome, it is ultimately a downstream marker of success and is affected by changes in other domains of youths' lives (e.g.
