Introduction: Despite increased recognition of and support for family building among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, Two-Spirit, and other sexual and gender minoritized (LGBTQ2S+) populations, there is still little evidence describing the experiences of pregnancy care within these populations in quantifiable ways. This paper describes our pilot study process and the feasibility of implementing a community-developed survey measuring respectful pregnancy care within LGBTQ2S+ communities.
Methods: Using a participatory action research approach, a Community Steering Council developed and piloted the Birth Includes Us survey.
Background: Limited research captures the intersectional and nuanced experiences of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, two-spirit, and other sexual and gender-minoritized (LGBTQ2S+) people when accessing perinatal care services, including care for pregnancy, birth, abortion, and/or pregnancy loss.
Methods: We describe the participatory research methods used to develop the Birth Includes Us survey, an online survey study to capture experiences of respectful perinatal care for LGBTQ2S+ individuals. From 2019 to 2021, our research team in collaboration with a multi-stakeholder Community Steering Council identified, adapted, and/or designed survey items which were reviewed and then content validated by community members with lived experience.
Thoracolumbosacral pedicle screw systems (TPSSs) are spinal implants commonly utilized to stabilize the spine as an adjunct to fusion for a variety of spinal pathologies. These systems consist of components including pedicle screws, rods, hooks, and various connectors that allow the surgeon to create constructs that can be affixed to a wide range of spinal anatomy. During the development and regulatory clearance process, TPSSs are subjected to mechanical testing such as static and dynamic compression bending per ASTM F1717, axial and torsional grip testing per ASTM F1798, and foam block pullout testing per ASTM F543.

Different L-IBFD designs have been developed to accommodate various surgical approaches for lumbar interbody fusion procedures including anterior, lateral, posterior, and transforaminal lumbar interbody fusions (ALIF, LLIF, PLIF, and TLIF, respectively). Due to design differences, there is a potential for mechanical performance differences between ALIF, LLIF, PLIF, and TLIF devices.
