A mathematical model of flavescence dorée in grapevines by considering seasonality.

This paper presents a mathematical model to describe the spread of flavescence dorée, a disease caused by the bacterium , which is transmitted by the insect vector in grapevine crops. The key contribution of this work is the derivation of conditions under which positive periodic solutions exist. These conditions are based on the assumption that key factors such as recruitment rates, disease transmission, and vector infectivity vary periodically, thus reflecting seasonal changes.

GSTM1 and GSTT1 deletions in penile cancer are associated with TNM stage but not with HPV DNA status.

Deletions of the GSTT1 and GSTM1 are associated with chemical carcinogenesis and genitourinary malignancies like bladder cancer, where they correlate with increased tumor aggressiveness. In uterine cervical lesions, GSTT1 and GSTM1 deletions have also been suggested to facilitate the persistence of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and HPV-induced carcinogenesis. This work addresses the hypothesis that GSTT1/GSTM1 deletions are associated with presence of HPV DNA and aggressiveness in penile cancer, a rare malignancy with HPV+ and HPV- subtypes.

Toxicity of isolated and mixed metals to a native Amazonian ostracod and ecological risk assessment.

In recent decades the Amazonian ecosystem has received large amounts of domestic and industrial effluents, as well as mining-related waste contributing significant quantities of metal to water bodies. Thus, the main objective of the study was to verify the sensitivity of a native Amazonian ostracod (Strandesia rondoniensis) species to isolated and mixed metal salts (CuSO; ZnCl; CdCl and HgCl). The sensitivity will be compared to other species using species sensitivity distributions (SSDs) for an ecological risk assessment (ERA).

Unusually Large Ligand Field Splitting in Anionic Europium(III) Complexes Induced by a Small Imidazolic Counterion.

Luminescent trivalent lanthanide (Ln) complexes are compounds of technological interest due to their unique photophysical properties, particularly anionic complexes, given their higher stability and emission quantum yields. However, structural studies on the cation-anion interaction in these complexes and the relation of such to luminescence are still lacking. Herein, the cation-anion interactions in two luminescent anionic tetrakis(2-thenoyltrifluoroacetonato)europate(III) complexes with alkylimidazolium cations, specifically 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium and 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium are investigated.

The research proposes a model to estimate the carbon stock in mangrove forests from multispectral images from Landsat 8 and Sentinel 2B satellites. The Gramame River mangrove, located on the southern coast of Paraíba State, Brazil, was adopted as the study area. Carbon stocks in biomass, below and above ground, were measured from a forest inventory, and vegetation indices were processed on the Google Earth Engine (GEE) platform.

Luminescent lanthanide mixed N-phthaloylglycinate and terephthalate coordination polymers: Structural and optical properties.

A new class of lanthanide mixed-carboxylate ligands compounds with formula {[Ln (phthgly) (bdc)(H O) ]·(H O) } , labelled as Ln : Eu (1) and Gd (2) coordination polymers (CP) were synthesized under mild reaction conditions between lanthanide nitrate salts and a solution of N-phthaloylglycine (phthgly) and terephthalic (bdc) ligands. The (1) and (2) coordination polymers were formed by symmetric binuclear units, in which phthgly and bdc carboxylate ligands are coordinated to the lanthanide ions by different coordination modes. Surprisingly, all organic ligands participate in hydrogen bonding interactions, forming an extremally rigid crystalline structure.

Malignancy Associated with Low-Risk HPV6 and HPV11: A Systematic Review and Implications for Cancer Prevention.

High-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) is etiologically related to cervical cancer, other anogenital cancers and oropharyngeal carcinomas. Strategy to Probe the Local Atomic Structure of Luminescent Rare Earth Complexes by X-ray Absorption Near-Edge Spectroscopy Simulation Using a Machine Learning-Based PyFitIt Approach.

Rare earth(III) β-diketonates are highly remarkable luminophores in the visible spectral region among the rare earth compounds, owing to the efficient contribution from the 4f-4f intraconfigurational transitions. To get detailed structural insight into the RE sites (RE = Eu, Gd, and Sm), X-ray absorption near-edge spectroscopy (XANES) can be very potent in probing the local chemical environment around the RE ion. In this work, a PyFitIt machine learning approach was employed as a new strategy to simulate the Eu, Gd, and Sm L-edge XANES and thereby determine the local atomic structure of the luminescence RE β-diketonate complexes, [Eu(tta)(HO)], [Cmim][Eu(dbm)], [Gd(tta)(HO)], and [Sm(dbm)(phen)] (tta, 3-thenoyltrifluoroacetonate; dbm, dibenzoylmethane; phen, phenanthroline; and Cmim, 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide).

Methods: This is a systematic review carried out through the PubMed, VHL and Scientific Electronic Library Online databases, using the descriptors "Cardiotoxicity" and "Chemotherapy" associated with the Boolean operator "AND." Initially, 15,090 articles were found between 2015 and 2021.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) infections are associated with cervical cancer and other anogenital cancers. Despite progresses in HPV vaccination and screening, these cancers still show high incidence and mortality, requiring improved prognostic markers and tailored therapies. Diffusion of Technology in the Teaching of Neuroanatomy in Times of Pandemic: A Medical and Academic Perspective on Learning.

The Covid-19 pandemic has caused major changes in many sectors of society worldwide. The issue of medical education stands out since it had to adapt to the rules of social isolation, ensuing discussions about the computerization of teaching methodology, particularly in neuroanatomy. In particular, the latter showed satisfactory adaptability to new technologies and highly promising learning results.

Many countries have applied mandatory confinement measures in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, such as school and kindergarten closures, which confined families to their homes. The study concerns the impacts of the first COVID-19 lockdown on the relationships between Portuguese parents and their children, in a non-clinical population composed of fathers and mothers of children between the ages of 12 months and 3 years and 364 days. An online questionnaire (set by the research team) and the Parenting Daily Hassles Scale (PDHS) concerning the confinement period were applied between 17 June and 29 July 2020.
