The spin-exotic hybrid meson π_{1}(1600) is predicted to have a large decay rate to the ωππ final state. Using 76.6  pb^{-1} of data collected with the GlueX detector, we measure the cross sections for the reactions γp→ωπ^{+}π^{-}p, γp→ωπ^{0}π^{0}p, and γp→ωπ^{-}π^{0}Δ^{++} in the range E_{γ}=8-10  GeV.

In this work, a flexible polyurethane (PU) foam/polymer/clay (PUF/PAASep) composite is prepared via a simple dip-coating method. The composite exhibits excellent damping properties under quasi-static compression, vibration transmissibility, and impact resistance. For the composite preparation, sepiolite (Sep) dispersion in a polyacrylic acid (PAA) solution is first homogenized and evaluated using microscopy, and the obtained PAASep suspension is used to coat the PU foam uniformly for optimization of the quasi-static mechanical performance of the foam composites.

Whilst bottlebrush polymers have been studied in aqueous media for their conjectured role in biolubrication, surface forces and friction mediated by bottlebrush polymers in non-polar media have not been previously reported. Optimization of boundary lubrication by tuning the confined molecular structures formed by surface-active additives such as surfactants and polymers is of key importance to improving energy efficiency in mechanical processes. Here, using the surface forces apparatus (SFA), we have directly measured the normal and shear forces between surface layers of a functionalised olefin copolymer (FOCP) in n-dodecane, deposited onto mica using the Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) technique. The FOCP has an olefin backbone decorated with a statistical distribution of polar-aromatic groups, with a structure that we term as "centipede".

The achievement of light-responsive behaviours is an important target for protocell engineering to allow control of fundamental protocellular processes such as communication via diffusible chemical signals, shape changes or even motility at the flick of a switch. As a step towards this ambitious goal, here we describe the synthesis of a novel poly(ethylene glycol)-based crosslinker, reactive towards nucleophiles, that effectively degrades with UV light (405 nm). We demonstrate its utility for the fabrication of the first protocell membranes capable of light-induced disassembly, for the photo-generation of patterns of protocells, and for the modulation of protocell membrane permeability.

Preduodenal portal vein (PDPV) is a rare congenital anomaly in which the portal vein lies anterior to the duodenum rather than its normal posterior position. It is a known rare cause of duodenal obstruction and can be associated with other anomalies such as malrotation with or without jejunal atresia. Presented is an incidentally found PDPV causing partial duodenal obstruction during exploration for the resection of a gastric mass and placement of open gastrostomy tube for feeding.

We report results of Λ hyperon production in semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering off deuterium, carbon, iron, and lead targets obtained with the CLAS detector and the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility 5.014 GeV electron beam. These results represent the first measurements of the Λ multiplicity ratio and transverse momentum broadening as a function of the energy fraction (z) in the current and target fragmentation regions.

We report the first measurements of deep inelastic scattering spin-dependent azimuthal asymmetries in back-to-back dihadron electroproduction in the deep inelastic scattering process. In this reaction, two hadrons are produced in opposite hemispheres along the z axis in the virtual photon-target nucleon center-of-mass frame, with the first hadron produced in the current-fragmentation region and the second in the target-fragmentation region. Lipoteichoic acid (LTA) is a major structural and functional molecule in the Gram-positive bacteria membrane. Knowledge of LTA adsorption at interfaces and its solution self-assembly is crucial to understanding its role in bacterial adhesion and colonisation, infections and inflammations. A precise measurement of the differential cross sections dσ/dΩ and the linearly polarized photon beam asymmetry Σ_{3} for Compton scattering on the proton below pion threshold has been performed with a tagged photon beam and almost 4π detector at the Mainz Microtron. The incident photons were produced by the recently upgraded Glasgow-Mainz photon tagging facility and impinged on a cryogenic liquid hydrogen target, with the scattered photons detected in the Crystal Ball/TAPS setup. Using the highest statistics Compton scattering data ever measured on the proton along with two effective field theories (both covariant baryon and heavy-baryon) and one fixed-t dispersion relation model, constraining the fits with the Baldin sum rule, we have obtained the proton electric and magnetic polarizabilities with unprecedented precision: α_{E1}=10.

High precision measurements of the polarized electron beam-spin asymmetry in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering (SIDIS) from the proton have been performed using a 10.6 GeV incident electron beam and the CLAS12 spectrometer at Jefferson Lab. We report here a high precision multidimensional study of single π^{+} SIDIS data over a large kinematic range in Bjorken x, fractional energy, and transverse momentum of the hadron as well as photon virtualities Q^{2} ranging from 1-7  GeV^{2}.

Hypothesis: Neutral amphiphilic PEG-g-PVAc co-polymer (a "tardigrade" polymer consisting of a hydrophilic polyethylene glycol, PEG, backbone with hydrophobic polyvinyl acetate, PVAc, grafts) can form complexes at the air-water interface with cationic dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide (DTAB) via self-assembly. Compared to anionic SDS, cationic DTAB headgroups are expected to interact strongly with the negatively charged OH groups from the partial dissociation of the PVAc grafts. We anticipate a transition from synergistic to competitive behaviour, which is expected to be dependent on the surfactant structural characteristics and concentration.
