Drug tolerance is a major cause of relapse after cancer treatment. Despite intensive efforts, its molecular basis remains poorly understood, hampering actionable intervention. We report a previously unrecognized signaling mechanism supporting drug tolerance in BRAF-mutant melanoma treated with BRAF inhibitors that could be of general relevance to other cancers.

Successful adoption of AVs can reduce drivers' stress and fatigue, curb traffic congestion, and improve safety, mobility, and economic efficiency. Due to the limited intelligence in relevant technologies, human-in-the-loop modalities are still necessary to ensure the safety of AVs at current or near future stages, because the vehicles may not be able to handle all emergencies.

Over the past decade, researchers have deposited hundreds of annotated and curated datasets on both normal and disordered craniofacial development in FaceBase, all freely available to the research community on the FaceBase Hub website. The Hub has developed numerous visualization and analysis tools designed to promote integration of multidisciplinary data while remaining dedicated to the FAIR principles of data management (findability, accessibility, interoperability and reusability) and providing a faceted search infrastructure for locating desired data efficiently.

The prevalence of overweight and obesity has been increasing globally. Recent studies suggest that eating frequency (EF) might be a factor influencing the development of overweight and obesity. This study aims to explore the association between eating frequency and obesity in Chinese adults.

This study aims to examine associations between body weight misperception and eating behaviors among Chinese adolescents. Students ( = 2641) from a middle school and a high school in Wuhan, China participated in a cross-sectional study in May 2016. A questionnaire based on the World Health Organization’s Global School-Based Student Health Survey was employed to assess responses.

The primary objective of this study was to analyze impact of PTR on survival in metastatic patients with breast cancer. A retrospective study of metastatic patients with breast cancer was conducted using the 1988-2011 Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) data base.

Purpose: The aim of the study was to compare the degree of pressure created when healthy adult volunteers sat on a hospital recliner chair in various positions and on various cushions.
Design: Comparative cross-sectional study.
Subjects And Setting: Thirty-four healthy subjects were recruited from the community, an urban city in a rural area of Eastern North Carolina.
We created the Ontology of Craniofacial Development and Malformation (OCDM) [1] to provide a unifying framework for organizing and integrating craniofacial data ranging from genes to clinical phenotypes from multi-species. Within this framework we focused on spatio-structural representation of anatomical entities related to craniofacial development and malformation, such as craniosynostosis and midface hypoplasia. Animal models are used to support human studies and so we built multi-species ontologies that would allow for cross-species correlation of anatomical information.

Context: American youth are insufficiently active, and minigrant programs have been developed to facilitate implementation of evidence-based interventions in communities. However, little is known about the cost-effectiveness of targeted minigrant programs for the implementation of physical activity (PA) promoting strategies for youth.
Objective: To determine the cost-effectiveness of a minigrant program to increase PA among youth.
Background: Prior studies have shown a relationship between surgeon volume and patient outcomes in Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) patients. Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (SG) is now the most common bariatric procedure, but there is a little data on surgeon volume and outcomes after SG. We examined the relationship between annual surgeon bariatric volume and 30-day complication rate after SG.

The resources generated by the FaceBase projects include a number of dynamic imaging modalities, genome-wide association studies, software tools for analyzing human facial abnormalities, detailed phenotyping, anatomical and molecular atlases, global and specific gene expression patterns, and transcriptional profiling over the course of embryonic and postnatal development in animal models and humans. The integrated data visualization tools, faceted search infrastructure, and curation provided by the FaceBase Hub offer flexible and intuitive ways to interact with these multidisciplinary data.

Methods: From 1988 to 2010, patients with Stage III extremity sarcoma were identified within the SEER registry and cohorts were created using propensity score matching between irradiated and non-irradiated groups.
The growth of bariatric surgery in the USA followed the adoption of gastric bypass (RYGB). The recent introduction of sleeve gastrectomy (SG) has been met with wide adoption. A single state report suggests that the popularity of SG has surpassed that of RYGB.

Objective: To determine the effectiveness of targeted grant funding for the implementation of multilevel community interventions to increase moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA) and decrease time spent sedentary among a large sample of youth in North Carolina.
Design: A repeated, cross-sectional, group-randomized controlled trial design with a delayed treatment group.
Setting: Twenty counties in North Carolina.
The presence of intercuneiform instability is not routinely inspected within the overall surgical management of hallux valgus and has therefore been underreported as a potential cause of recurrence. We sought to demonstrate the incidence of this unique type of proximal instability to state its potential importance in the correction and definitive management of hallux valgus in patients with moderate to severe intermetatarsal angles with superimposed hypermobility. A total of 34 patients underwent 38 tarsometatarsal arthrodeses for hallux valgus correction and were retrospectively reviewed for 36 months from May 2007 to May 2010.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFDisorders of the peripheral nervous system have traditionally been evaluated using clinical history, physical examination, and electrodiagnostic testing. In selected cases, imaging modalities such as magnetic resonance (MR) neurography may help further localize or characterize abnormalities associated with peripheral neuropathies, and the clinical importance of such techniques is increasing. However, MR image interpretation with respect to peripheral nerve anatomy and disease often presents a diagnostic challenge because the relevant knowledge base remains relatively specialized.

The identification and study of treatment regimes (algorithms or policies for dictating treatments to patients) are a growing area of study in the statistical sciences. Many methods have been put forth to identify the 'best' or optimal treatment regime from observed data. Once the optimal treatment regime is identified, a secondary question of interest is to determine the public health impact of that health policy.
