Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the developmental stage of teeth adjacent to the agenesis site in comparison to their antimeres.
Materials And Methods: Panoramic views of 39 patients with unilateral dental agenesis and 42 normal controls were evaluated. The dental developmental stage (normal or delayed) of the teeth adjacent to the agenesis site was determined for each patient using the Haavikko's method, while the overall dental age was determined by Becker's method.
The aim of the study was to establish the prevalence of dental features that indicate a need for early orthodontic treatment (EOT). A group of schoolchildren in the mixed dentition stage (7-11 years old) (n = 432) was clinically screened for indications for EOT. Over 1/3 of the youngsters (34.

The aim of the study was to investigate the morphologic occlusal symmetry of non-surgically treated children after condylar fractures. The original study group consisted of 55 subjects (31 males and 24 females) who suffered temporomandibular joint condylar fractures at a young age and were treated conservatively, with physiotherapy only.

Introduction: In the course of orthodontic treatment with serial extractions (SE), spontaneous unraveling of crowded incisors occurs. It was hypothesized that SE followed by mechanotherapy will cause less external apical root resorption (EARR) than orthodontic treatment with late extractions (LE).
Methods: The records of 24 patients who underwent SE and mechanotherapy and 24 control patients who underwent LE and mechanotherapy were examined.
Objective: To test the hypothesis that the use of a combination headgear (HG) during the first phase of orthodontic treatment has no effect on the eruption pattern of the maxillary second permanent molars.
Materials And Methods: The records of the patients in a two-phase randomized clinical trial of early Class II treatment were utilized. The HG group comprised 47 patients, and the control (CON) group comprised 52 patients.

Introduction: Children with severe congenital absence of teeth present uncommon morphologies and therapeutic challenges. This study was designed to investigate the characteristic skeletal and dental features of this group.
Methods: A group of 28 children with at least 10 congenitally missing teeth (excluding third molars) was examined roentgenographically.
The purpose of the study was to examine the compliance of children wearing their mouthguards, and to evaluate socio-environmental factors that impact upon the usage of the device. Eighty children attending the student clinic of the Hadassah School of Dental Medicine received mouthguards free of charge. One year later, 69 participants and their parents answered a survey aimed at gaining information regarding compliance and comfort when wearing the mouthguard correlated with gender, ages of parents and child, number of siblings, position of child in the family, socio-economic status, education of parents and past dental injuries of siblings or parents.

Purpose: Much reported variation and discord exist regarding mandibular condylar hyperplasia (CH). This study evaluated some of the characteristics of this disorder in a series of 61 patients with active CH.
Patients And Methods: A total of 61 patients with active temporomandibular CH who had been evaluated in our departments were included.

Introduction: Idiopathic scoliosis is an orthopedic condition characterized by faulty posture. It might also be associated with some mild forms of facial asymmetry or dental deviations. The aim of the study was to clinically examine the occlusions of patients with idiopathic scoliosis.

Physical education teachers attended a seminar presented by senior faculty of the Hebrew University-Hadassah School of Dental Medicine as part of an educational campaign in the community. The seminar included clear instructions on the appropriate treatment of avulsed permanent teeth, which were appropriate for physical education teachers.

The esthetic effect of orthodontic treatment in young patients may sometimes be incomplete without performing additional procedures related to the form and texture of the anterior teeth. Six young patients, aged 7 to 21 years, presented for orthodontic treatment to improve their dental esthetics. The problems of tooth staining, mutilation, congenitally missing teeth, tooth size/arch length discrepancy, and sequellae of dental trauma neccessitated a combined orthodontic-prosthodontic treatment.

Objective: The objective of this study was to examine nasal airflow and olfactory functions in patients with repaired cleft palate compared with matching normal controls.
Study Design: The all-cleft group consisted of 25 patients with hard palate cleft comprising 15 patients with unilateral cleft palate and lip (UCLP); 2 with CP but no cleft lip (UCLP subgroup) and 8 patients with bilateral cleft lip and palate (BCLP subgroup). All had had surgical correction of the palate in infancy.
Objective: The purpose of the study was to determine the prevalence of congenitally missing teeth in a group of Israeli children with various types of clefts.
Design: Prevalence of congenitally missing teeth was determined for 179 children with cleft lip, cleft lip and alveolar ridge, cleft lip and palate, and cleft palate. Subgroupings were assessed according to patient sex, origin, cleft type, tooth type, and the side of hypodontia.
Upper removable appliances (URA), as well as full dentures, are known to be the cause of various complaints related to oral handling of food and beverages, phonation and vocalization, in addition to general discomfort. To test the hypothesis that taste and flavour perception might also be affected by URA, 22 young orthodontic patients (10 males and 12 females aged 11.5 +/- 1.

The present study aimed to evaluate the post-retention clinical appearance and periodontal status of impacted maxillary central incisors which were exposed and aligned with an open-eruption surgical-orthodontic technique. Twelve subjects (four males, eight females), aged 22 years (range 15-38 years), previously treated for a unilateral impacted central incisor (ICI), were examined 10 years (range 3-25 years) post-retention.

External apical root resorption (EARR) is an imperfectly understood problem of orthodontic treatment. The records of 138 children with Class II malocclusion (overjet > 7 mm) participating in a randomized clinical trial of early orthodontic treatment were reviewed. The patients were treated in either 1 phase with fixed appliances only (n = 49) or 2 phases with headgear (n = 49) or bionator (n = 40) followed by fixed appliances.

Objectives: To evaluate the population of cleft patients treated in a Department of Orthodontics and the types of treatment modalities provided.
Methods: Demographic, cleft related and treatment related data existing in the patients' files were supplemented by questionnaires. Comparisons were conducted among 3 cleft groups: cleft lip (CL), cleft lip and palate (CLP) and cleft palate (CP).
The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical appearance and pulpal and periodontal status of impacted maxillary central incisors that had been exposed and aligned after a closed-eruption surgical technique. Twenty-one patients were examined 4.5 years (median) postretention.

The influence of physiologic occlusal forces on tissue response to orthodontic tooth movement and its subsequent recovery was investigated in rats. The mandibular incisors were subjected to tipping and intrusive loads for 2 weeks. In 27 animals, the teeth remained in occlusion, while the incisors were shortened out of occlusion in 29.

Dental injury is a traumatic event related to many factors, including dentofacial morphology. In a previous study in which we used a logistic regression model, 5 cephalometric variables were defined as being the best predictors of traumatic injury. The purposes of this study were to test the predictive value of the logistic regression analysis results for the occurrence of dental injury in a new patient sample and to compare these results with the outcome based on a visual evaluation of cephalograms.
