Coral reefs are experiencing decreases in coral cover due to anthropogenic influences. Coral restoration is addressing this decline by outplanting large volumes of corals onto reef systems. This study explored the facilitators and barriers of community bike share use in a mid-sized city with high incidence of poverty and racial diversity using a community-based participatory action research (CBPAR) photovoice framework with the Stanford (OV) Discovery Tool digital application. Community members participated in one of three community citizen science walks with follow up focus groups facilitated by osteopathic medical student researcher to address "What makes it easy or hard to ride a bike using the bike share?" Twenty-seven diverse community members partnered with four osteopathic medical students exploring vulnerable individuals' lived experiences, beliefs/understanding of the Social Determinants of Health (SDoH) and access to the bike share program. Purpose: There has been a move towards the implementation of digital/e-health interventions for some time. Digital/e-health interventions have demonstrable efficacy in increasing individual empowerment, providing timely access to psychological interventions for those experiencing mental ill-health and improving outcomes for those using them. This study aims to determine the efficacy of digital/e-health interventions for individuals detained in prison who experience mental ill-health.

Contagious bovine pleuropneumonia (CBPP) is an infectious and contagious bacterial respiratory disease that affects cattle with significant economic losses to the African animal industry. The use of ELISA kits based on monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) will aid in quick and precise diagnosis of CBPP, contributing to disease control and prevention in cattle. Nanocrystal drug formulation involves several critical manufacturing procedures that result in complex structures to improve drug solubility, dissolution, bioavailability, and consequently the efficacy of poorly soluble Biopharmaceutics Classification System (BCS) II and IV drugs. Nanocrystal formulation of an already approved oral drug may need additional immunotoxic assessment due to changes in the physical properties of the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API). In this study, we selected Zileuton, an FDA-approved drug that belongs to BCS-II for nanocrystal formulation.

Methods: A systematic search of five academic databases was conducted: CINAHL, MEDLINE, EMBASE, PsycINFO and Allied and Complementary Medicine Database in February 2023 with no date or geographic limiters set owing to the paucity of research on this subject area.

Opportunistic consumption of coral spawn by the ruby brittle star ().

Many reef invertebrates reproduce through simultaneous broadcast spawning, with an apparent advantage of overwhelming potential predators and maximizing propagule survival. Although reef fish have been observed to consume coral gamete bundles during spawning events, there are few records of such predation by benthic invertebrates. Here, we document several instances of the ruby brittle star, , capturing and consuming egg-sperm bundles of the mountainous star coral, , and the symmetrical brain coral, , during spawning events in the Cayman Islands in 2012 and the Florida Keys in 2022.

Effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic on the Trauma Population in a Level 1 Trauma Center.

In this study, we evaluated the effects of the pandemic on our trauma population. We performed a retrospective review of the trauma registry in the 2 years prior, and then 2 years during the pandemic. We evaluated age, race, gender, injury severity score (ISS), mechanism of trauma, rate of self-inflicted injury, rate of gunshot wounds (GSW), presence of EtOH, drug screen results, mortality, rate of burn traumas, and zip code of residence.

A Multidisciplinary Approach for the Management of Portal Vein Thrombosis.

Portal venous thrombosis (PVT) is an uncommon disease associated with highly morbid conditions such as intestinal ischemia and portal hypertension. Introduction: The necessity of treating hypertrophic burn scars has expanded significantly with increased burn survivorship. Ablative lasers, such as carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) lasers, have been the most common nonoperative option for improving functional outcomes in severe recalcitrant hypertrophic burn scars. However, the overwhelming majority of ablative lasers used for this indication require a combination of systemic analgesia, sedation, and/or general anesthesia due to the painful nature of the procedure.

Aortic Injury From High-Speed Deceleration Against a Lap Belt in a 10-year-Old.

Traumatic aortic injuries in children and adolescents are rare, and even more rare are blunt traumatic injury to the abdominal aorta in this population. Therefore, there are few reports discussing the presentation and repair of such injuries, especially within the pediatric population. We report the successful repair of traumatic abdominal aortic transection in a 10-year-old female after a high speed MVC.
